I was bummed to see that the discussion was closed on your research, so I'm leaving some feedback here. I hear the complaint that there's not enough education, but what I have found is that most people don't realize the education we do go through. They don't realize we have studied anatomy. Our class was even shown a human dissection which improved my skills even more, but when I tell anyone that, they are shocked at what education I do have.

Under payed is huge. Even out on my own, I felt I had to deal people favors or deals in order to get them to commit on a regular basis. People getting massage want it cheap. They think it to be a luxury. I try to educate them and tell them they will function much better at their job if they got on a maintenance program. They just don't believe me. They'd rather spend 100's of 1000's of dollars at the doctor and in the operating room rather than pay me $60 to $200/month to keep them out of the doctor's office.

I've been a therapist for almost 16 years now. I have worked for great people and not so great people. I have been on my own now for the past few years and love it. I am finally in a city where people are getting it. Who knew that would be in a small rural town in Iowa?!?! I basically pay rent, a little high for small town USA, but I'm happy with the people in the office and the clients that come in that door.

Happiness is a huge key to being a successful MT. I wouldn't have stayed with it if it didn't make me happy to see someone walk away from my massage looking like a whole new person.

I hope this helps your research.

Good Luck
