massage and bodywork professionals

I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.
For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.
I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!
What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.
If you get bored come see me at my page http://www.massageprofessionals.com/profile/MikeHinkle
Thanks and welcome to Massage Professionals!

I was a Project Manager for almost twenty years (started right after college). A big change, huh? But I'm loving my new career!
Well Kathy,
Wow! That was great to read. You are a go getter! I would like to help promote your massage creams when you get going! Great to have you with us. You are going to love this site... networking/social heaven!!!

Hi, I'm new to this wonderful site! Before I became a Massage Therapist I was a stay at home mom and Air Force military wife. Became interested in massage while we lived in Nebraska when my 3 sons were younger but the class requirements did not fit my schedule. I instead followed my other passion, "horticulture" and earned two A.A.S. degrees: landscape design and nursery management. I worked for the National Arbor Day Foundation until my spouse and I split. I moved to Missouri where I began all over working for Dairy Queen as an Asst. Manager. Moved on to creating an independent cleaning business cleaning empty rentals and for sale homes for real estate agencies and making donuts for Casey's Gas station. Then I got hired on at the Dollar General Distribution Center in Fulton, MO where I worked for 18 months doing very physical labor and loved every minute of it. My body felt tired but was becoming toned and healthy! Then April, 2006 I enrolled at Missouri College in St. Louis to take massage therapy and graduated December, 2006. I moved back to Fulton where I worked for Massage Envy in Columbia and then Renaissance Salon and Spa in Mexico, MO. December, 2008 I moved back to Arkansas to help my ex on his 20 acres...we remarried. I spent 2009 working on getting my Arkansas Massage License and 2010 working on remodeling a building on our land so I can massage, completed a physical therapy aide course with Penn Foster and my Holistic Nutrition / Herbology (BS Degree) course with Clayton College of Natural Health. I have accomplished a few mobile massage sessions in 2010 and have started 2011 performing massage in my newly remodeled building here at home. We are currently waiting for the weather to warm up so we can work on getting the sewer and water pipes trenches dug, pipes installed and buried so we have a usable bathroom accessible for my clients. While we are waiting I am working on the website, preparing to start making my own massage creams, checking into the gift certificates and other business related issues so I can start 2011 off on the right foot. Also connecting with the people in the area as I am a Master Gardener and am still involved with horticulture and nutritional issues. I plan to incorporate organic gardening and nutrition into my home business as part of a holistic healthy lifestyle.
Hey Good evening all,

I have worked as a nurse for over 25 years, trained as an MT in 2005-6 and became licensed in 2007. Adding Reiki and hypnosis to my tool box in 2009. I continue to work in rehab nursing but my real passions are in the TRUE healing arts of body work, nutrition, and meditation. I live in the state of Massachusetts where it is state mandated to buy health insurance so I continue to half heartedly work in "sick care" to pay my bills (including that for the health insurance I don't use).
Have done some part time MT and am looking to rent space in a local wellness center offering my talents on a more regular basis. I am in the negotiating phase on the rental fee for the space. It includes a table, seperate waiting area, electric, and appointment booking. Neither the owner nor myslef have a good idea yet on a fee. I would rent 8 hour blocks 2-3 days per month. Any feed back on this would be helpful.
Thanks,
BB
I was (and still am to some degree) a hopeless musician... at one point in my life. :) Aside from professional student (massage school was my 4th attempt at school after HS.) I've worked in just about every field there is. Jack of all trades master of one. I've done (and still do) tattoos and piercings, successfully opened, ran and sold a computer business, run mail order / phone order businesses, all to finally go to school for massage, and never look back. I incorporated my business, and am in the process of getting it fully functional. I'm now at the point where I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Taking the MBLEx tomorrow!!! YAY ME! :) LOL
Let us know how the tests went. You just saved the best for last and those other jobs taught you how to prepare for massage!

Test went excellent!! Scored a 778! Not bad for being out of school for 2 1/2 years! You certainly helped, Mike! Laura Allen with that amazing study guide, and Ryan Hoyme, the ever helpful MassageNerd, were immense helps as well!
