I am looking into working as a contractor for a company that does insurance billing. The owner of the company called me out of the blue after locating me online and offered me a contractor position. We only spoke on the phone and they have sent me some paperwork to sign up. I have heard of this company and checked out their webpage but I have never taken insurance clients. Does anyone have any pointers on what I should expect?

Depending on the insurance carrier you could have long delays for payment and even end up with denial. The benefit is that you can get more clients since they don't have to pay out of pocket. I'd check with people in your area taking insurance to see how the pay is and if they have any problems collecting. Remember that the insurance carrier decides usually what they will pay for a service. You might also ask the office what billing codes they will use to charge the insurance so you don't get involved with an insurance scam.
Best Wishes!
Hi Lisa, i just read your job opertunity, My practice is about 99% insurance and i have to office in NY. the question i have for you when you say insureance what do you mean. ie. Mager Med, Workers Comp, No-fault. if you would like i can probley help you if you have any question. if not good luck to you i find it very re-warding if it is done right.
Car Accidents usually are long waits while the settlements are negotiated. Some insurance companies will pay full and others have a maximum pay for massage. You can submit the bills to the injured parties lawyer without a doctor. The Lawyers usually know what the insurance company will pay and how it needs to be submitted for each case. I have had it take 1 to 1.25 years to reach settlement.
Worker's Comp is set rates by the insurance company by code for the type of service. It must be submitted through the treating physician.
