massage and bodywork professionals
a community of practitioners
Hi everyone!
I just recently found this website and am so glad that I did. I am in my 40's and am starting massage therapy school next month. I am really excited! I have worked and owned a successful pet grooming business in the past, however I sold my business when my fibromyalgia made me too sick to work.
It was at that time, that I decided I needed to make huge changes in my life. So I spent the next year and a half healing my mind, body and spirt, and Im happy to report that I am now symptom free!
I decided to pursue a career where I could focus on wholistic healing and lifestyle and after considering my options, I chose massage. :)
I so glad to be here and looking forward to getting to know you all.

Glad to have you here, Stacey!
Welcome Stacey!!!
Hi Stacey! It's amazing how many people are inspired to start this kind of work after experiencing their own healing process. It's good stuff! I hope you really enjoy massage school and find it as rewarding and life-changing as I did. I was 38 when I graduated, am 42 now and know beyond any doubt that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
Hi, Stacey. You're getting into the profession at a very good age. I enrolled in massage school in my early 60s. In high school, students just want it to end so they can get on with their lives. Older students tend to be more dedicated to their studies. So, the learning will be easier for you than for most of your classmates; though you have been longer out of school, your enthusiasm will make up for any lack in that regard. You will do well. If you're like me, you are gonna love the process.
Obviously, it'll be easier for you if you go to work in an established practice. I didn't. Building a practice from scratch is not easy...lots of boulders and potholes in your roadway. Do take advantage-- start right away building. If you haven't already, become a student member of ABMP ($45, or $65 with insurance which will protect you while you practice outside your school). ABMP membership provides very good practice building tools, including a website you can build yourself. No computer codding required. Just commonsense with a short learning curve to design your own website. Begin now; getting the website right will take awhile. True, until you earn your license you can't plug in prices, etc. In that page, I said straight up that I was in school and would be honored to provide them with massage free of charge. Have business cards printed, hand one out to everyone you treat in school clinic; some of them will become your paying clients after graduation. If I can help you in any way, send me a PM.
Gary
Thanks for the warm welcome :P I look forward to the journey ahead.
