I would love to hear from Licensed Massage Therapists in California who run their own business on how I can bill insurances. What are your experiences? Thanks a lot!

Tanja,
The Ca MTC doesn't license therapists, it is a certification. CMP or CMT, no LMT.
Anyway, the two insurances you can bill are Personal Injury/Auto Accidents and Workman's Compensation. These are two entirely different systems with CPT codes, payment schedules and other administrative policies.
I have had good luck with Auto cases. My last W/C case paid barely $47 and I can't afford to do these anymore.
I wouldn't sign up for ASH or any other PPO. Just my 2 cents.
Cheers,
jh
Hi Tanja,
The best expert in the country on Medical Billing will be our Keynote Speaker and teaching a class you may want to take on board the Queen Mary next month! Vivian Madison Mahoney can help you. Her class at http://worldmassagefestival.com/2013/mahoney.html
Hi Tanja! I'm currently an ASH (American Specialty Healthcare) Provider and it's going great! They make it very easy to submit payments. I just wish more policies covered massage...but baby steps. Little by little we are making believers out of them that massage is not just relaxing, but it's also a great pain management tool & preventative therapy for so many ailments!!!
ASH only pays $11.25 per 15 minutes ($45 ph), but I don't do deep tissue. I keep it easy on my body and work the injured areas. Contact them! It takes 60-90 days for credidation.
Be well ;)
