I am curious about what brings each of you to a particular CE course. Each time I teach, students come to me after the class and tell me it was a great class and that I am "such a great teacher." It always makes me wonder what is available out there and if some students, having had a bad classroom experience, are less likely to seek out continuing education courses. So, what draws you to a course? Or a certain modality? Have you had good or bad experiences?

I am new to the profession. This is the first time I am having to take CE to renew my license. I have taken a couple seminars. The first one was terrible. She spent so much time talking and not enough time showing. It was over crowded, there wasn't much time to practice what we were learning and the teacher couldn't get around the whole room to answer questions. There were a lot of frustrated students that day! The second class was much better. It was crowded but the way the class was taught was different. Left plenty of time in between segments to practice and ask questions. To me that is key. If I am pay all this money for the class and I am spending my day trying to learn something new I want to leave feeling like I learned something! I want to feel excited about it. Feel comfortable practicing it right away on clients.
What has drawn me to particular courses so far? I work in a chiro office so I am looking for specific techniques that will help me at work. I want to refresh my memory on some of the things I learned in school that I didn't use on a regular basis when I first started and have forgotten about. I want to learn advanced techniques that weren't taught in massage school. How to make change without working so darn hard!
I recently ordered your SMRT dvd course for the hip/sacrum. I like having the dvd so I can keep referring back to it. I am visual learner so that is something that I find helpful. The down side is the No hands on (doing and feeling the work)
I wish CE classes were more affordable. I would take more if I could afford them. And I really wish that when you take a seminar that it included a dvd of the course in the price or offered them for additional $10. The classes I took offered them for what you would pay online w/o the credits. That is ridiculous!
few things I personally look for are:
style of teaching - is it conducive to how i learn best?
variety of content methods - text, video, audio
approach and personality of teacher
quality of material
is it something new i can add to my arsenal?
is there a true practical approach/need?
cost/location, logistics
does this help?
