What Did You Do Before Massage?
I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.
For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.
I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!
What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.

I was in retail management for 18 years. I remember I always said; "I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up." I have had an interest in massage for several years, but felt as though I would never have the time or money. Finally, I woke up and realized nothing was going to happen if I didn't make a change. I had gone too many years and felt unhappy for far too long. So.... I walked out of my job and made some major life changes. I enrolled in massage school, and haven't looked back. I'm broke, and kinda sick of Ramen noodles. However, I am always taken care of and have faith that it will all work out in one way or another. Honestly, I have never been happier in my life. I can't wait to help others, and assist in creating positive change! Thank you!

Hi there
Before I did massages I was working as a Case Manager/ Mental tech in Sweden for about 10 years, l learned a lot about human behaviour and lots about humans in general. When I came to the USA, i could not quite figure out what to do,
however I have always had an interest in giving people massages and I always had a sense that I was good at it
for some reason I decided to goto a massage school here and I guess the rest is just history

Before becoming a massage therapist, I was a full time Senior Technical Analyst and my part-time job as a registered fitness instructor helped me financially while studying math and commerce at University. After University my travels took me to Japan where I spent 8 years working and learning. During that time there I became a black belt in Aikido, continued my fitness and computer career, came back to Canada and followed my initial plan which was to study about massage therapy. This thought to learn about massage all came about during a study of the aging population in one of my economics classes. Mike, How is that for a quick reverse chronological summary.

Prior to beginning my career in massage therapy I was a window washer. In fact I still am. The day job provides some really good benefits that I need right now and it allows me to build my private practice slowly and steadily. I currently see private clients and work on an "on call" basis at the local YMCA.

Reading these stories is great fun! I have been a sign language interpreter for 22+ years now, the last 16 at a university. I only work there part time now that I have my massage business (5 1/2 years).

I still work as a pharmacy technician. I like doing all kind of massage from acupressure to reflexology. I never had a massage myself. I just give them out . lol

I was a stay-at-home mom with an intense interest in alternative health and healing. I thought about naturopathy school, but decided that wasn't for me. So, I started training in Healing Touch and then after a couple of years off to massage school at the ripe old age of 43. I love my work and can't imagine doing anything else.
