massage and bodywork professionals

I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.

For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.

I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!

What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.

If you get bored come see me at my page http://www.massageprofessionals.com/profile/MikeHinkle

Thanks and welcome to Massage Professionals!

I still work as a pharmacy technician. I like doing all kind of massage from acupressure to reflexology. I never had a massage myself. I just give them out . lol

How could you go thru massage school without getting a massage? Usually people pair up everyday to practice new techniques.
I had a marketing company that supplied the automotive aftermarket industry. I had a neck injury that plagued me for years. Got my first massage in 1987 and voila! No more pain! Decided to sell my marketing company to the employees, become a massage therapist and open a healing center. I have never regretted the decision and love this profession with a passion.
Glad to have you with us Steve! Ever need help, just holler!
Sales...most of 35+ years surviving on base plus commission, the last seven of those cherished years in mid level sales management for an Industrial/Commercial Air Conditioning supplier in the metro New York / New Jersey area. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Worked in several industries mainly in a customer direct capacity or responsible for customer service. An event occurred in my life that changed my view on daily life and the stress associated with materialistic idealism. My dear friend was "murdered" by terrorists in the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center in NYC. Everything reset to zero for me as a result of that event. I took inventory of my life path and made some decisions on a new direction. I had developed an interest in massage resulting from an experience with an MT and a gift certificate for a deep tissue massage. She made an impact on me. With my wife's support, I entered a small massage and bodywork school and never looked back. It's been seven great years so far, many wonderful clients and a yearning to learn more about this profession. I currently live in the Myrtle Beach, So Carolina area and perform my massage & bodywork at multiple locations. The area is fantastic, I'm living stress free for the first time in a long time and love that I can visit the beach between clients to recharge!
I was in real estate and property management for 12 years. 1992-2004 RIP
Single mom of 3 girls...
Cleaned houses,
Waited tables,
Cleaned pools,
Explored vacant houses Going through the old block homes that got buried in erin and opal. Filled with sand, Owners selling the waterfront lots for 400,000. as is. Those were some of my fond memories. Going through the Historic district homes, God what history,,, Man, Pensacola has some beautiful huge homes.
Nursed my mother through a tremendous 12 month medical ordeal and decided I needed to find something a little less stressful. My massage therapist at that time, beautiful, Ron Andrews suggested I become a massage therapist and gave me a push and the info I needed and I will honor him for that suggestion forever. Om Shanti Ron
I didn't do anything before massage ! I have been a massage therapist since i graduated highschool. I did, however, have quite an array of jobs in highschool, but thats going to make this post much too long.
The sales should make it a lot easier for you to approach potential clients. I know it made me feel more confident. I spent all my Spring Breaks at Myrtle Beach. It sure has grown since the seventies!!! Glad to have you with us Kevin. If you need help, just holler!

I worked in Restaurants for seven years, washing dishes, cooking, busing tables, serving customers.
Then I served 4 years in the U.S.Army, did one tour in Iraq, then I got out and decided to try something completely different.
Decided to get my massage license because I loved getting massages so much, and wanted to give back to people, and help them to relax and feel good!
Thanks for asking. I was a Horticulturalist - Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for a park district. I worked caring for plants for 20 years before changing careers. I love and enjoy being a massage therapist. Occasionally I miss the days of being outside but not on the "hot" over 80 degrees or the "bitter cold and windy" below 0 degrees days.
Me too! Thanks, Ron, Shawn has added much to the massage profession!

I think it will be good for you too, James. A whole lot better than Iraq! Glad you are home! Holler if you need any help!

Hi Mike, You brought some laughter into my life by reading your inquiry. my previous (and temporarily current) occupation was/is Professional Truckdriver (big rig-18 wheeler). so, i laughed when i saw your addiction to travel as i know it well myself. it's good to know that there may be other options available to me when i get the itch again to travel-once i've stopped that is! I'm planning on Finally after 7 years to open my own spa. the distance i've had to cover in order to reach this place in time is quite literally and actually around 750,000+ miles! It'll be fun later to find out some of your favorite travel places in the us! Oh, and before truckdriving, i was a financial manager, media estimator, secretary, photographer, and many other things. However, my calling has always been to be a teacher and healer.
