Finding fairly basic Continuing Education Courses, especially Deep Tissue

Looking for an upcoming Deep Tissue Continuing Education classes?

I am looking for a 12 hour class Deep Tissue class, but a 6 hour with a second 6 hours offered shortly after would help too. Also looking for a pre-natal class and good places to get some of the fundamental modality training.

It seems like it is hard to find the more basic offerings - I find lots of newer techniques being taught, but not many of the basic courses I need as a newer MT. Any input would be really helpful - even if they don't offer Deep Tissue, if you've taken a CEU locally and can recommend the class/teacher/facility, please share. Any CEU resources or recommended providers will be helpful.

Thanks

subbing b/c after almost 2 years of doing exclusively chair work, I feel like I need a refresher on table work.
Hi Suzanne,

Body Biz is offering Intro to NMT, multiple times this fall. The 2 day workshop is 16 CE's. We have this class scheduled, in Aug, Oct, Nov. Indianapolis and Chicagoland. Provide me an email and I will send additional information. Please join our group Body Biz to discover more!

Thanks, Stephanie

There is a 12 hour class on cardiovascular pathologies and reproductive pathologies and conditions (including pregnancy) offered in Lafayette, LA first wkend in Dec. Emphasis is treatment planning and massage modifications.

I also have an online course in massage and medications. There are three required modules. Two of the modules are reviews of disease awareness and treatment planning.

Let me know if you need more info.

But I TOTALLY agree with you, Suzanne. We need more CE’s emphasizing and reinforcing basic concepts.
"Deep Tissue" is a vague term that means different things to different people. Can you be more specific about what kind of training you received and how you want to grow from there? I've done hundreds of CE hours, and all were good, and each influenced my work in different ways. However, I chose each class deliberately, to meet a perceived need.

For example, I wanted to understand foot and ankle mechanics, problems, evaluation and treatment better, so I took a class on evaluation and treatment of the foot and ankle. It covered what I needed to know, plus introduced me to things I wasn't aware of, some of which completely revolutionized how I work with many clients. Another example: I realized that passive static stretching was not working for my clients, so I studied Active Isolated Stretching with Aaron Mattes. That experience dramatically changed my work in many positive ways, both as a massage therapist and as a personal trainer.

Rather than just randomly take "Deep Tissue" classes, take another look at what you want to get out of the classes you take. Once you've identified some priorities, look for classes that will meet your needs.
