So funny to see this discussion was going on in 2011! I went through a community college for my Massage Therapy Certificate. It was part of the allied sciences department so I had the medical massage training. As a career changer, I NEVER would have gone into massage therapy with the intention of doing "spa massage". I've always been about the medical/orthooedic massage from the get go, but I also wanted to go into Physical Therapy for a second career but realized it wasn't the same as…

I've always been about the medical/orthooedic massage from the get go, but I also wanted to go into Physical Therapy for a second career but realized it wasn't the same as when I was coming through college in the 80s.

In Maryland, they have a two tier system - 1. Registered Massage Practitioners that are only allowed to work in spas/salons for the purpose of relaxation and 2. LMT that require some studies in allied science courses, are medical professionals and can work in any environment. In Virginia and DC, there is no distinction. I do like the two tier system, it would make life easier on all of us. Want a relaxing swedish massage - go to a RMP, want somebody to help your rotator cuff issue - go to a LMT...

Daniel Cohen said:

It is as much a problem as having 8 massage establishments in two blocks around my place. We are in a period of evolution at this point and it will be interesting to see how it evolves. Perhaps if states take the German model and license separately Medical Massage & Wellness Massage it might change the landscape.

One of the nice things about the forearm is the two bones in it. By simply rotating your wrist you apply varying pressure and can even stretch the muscle under it without moving. Forearm rocks, slides, pushes, pulls, goes deep, and rolls in.

I have both Forearm Dance videos and they totally changed how I do massage. And saved my career! I was in so much pain before, and only working on a few people a week. It's wonderful work, and my clients really love it.

Having a church has some really nice tax benefits!!
