Independent Contractor Massage Proposals

I recently came from a job interview that gave me the low down on the job.
Basically I will be a independent massage therapist. He will pay me
$20 every massage and if the new massage patient goes over to chiro I
Get a $20 bonus. This is all cash and i have to do a 1099.
He pays for the clean sheets, cream, advertisment, ect
But here's the kicker, I have to pay a $100 rent fee. I thought if I pay rent I get
100% commission or atleast more the. $20. I work currently as a MT in a facility
Getting paid $18 only parttime. So I don't know which is better. I will b the only MT
At this chiro office and it will gradually grow to more hours "he says"

Please help. Is this a good idea or is he playing me for a sucker??

This is an employee not independent contractor. Read the IRS rules for Independent Contractor. Also they do the 1099 not you if you are an independent contractor.

If you pay rent you are self employed and not an independent contractor or employee.

Yes he is playing you and violating the law. Don't do this unless you pay rent and keep the massage money. He can't twist it so many ways.

Look for another hourly part time is just my opinion. This way you can get a full schedule.

I would have to say you need to work out a better contract than that. How much is he charging the client for your services? I would try to negotiate for a better cut and keeping the part time job.
