Robin, do you have any thoughts yet on when you might do the 100 hour certification next year? I am saving money!! Hope your trip to Big Sur was eventful only in good ways. Saw where Corey is doing didgeridoo meditation at yogasoup. lucky, lucky people...
  • Dawn Marie Jordan

What I love most about Esalen massage is the connectedness and flow. It's about simply touching someone deeply. What if that's all we did as massage therapists - simply touched deeply?
  • Rebecca B Adams

Dawn Marie, you remind me of a saying -- "Let me seek then the gift of silence - where everything I touch is turned into a prayer.." and another one - "help the heart to heal, and let the body tell its own story.."
I think that all we ever need to do is touch someone deeply, and let it be whatever it will! I believe you have the heart of a true healer... Namaste'
  • Darcy Neibaur

I am enjoying this Rebecca. Thank you for sharing.
  • Rebecca B Adams

Thank you Darcy - I appreciate your support! I find the small amount of Esalen training I've been privileged to receive from Robin is influencing every move I make now. And I had a client to tell me just yesterday that my touch feels sacred to her.. What a joy, what an honor to find out that someone has felt the Great Mystery move thru your touch to purify and renew them! How lucky, lucky, lucky are we!!
  • Shawn Maria Brinza

You may just see me in ashville Robin, I plan to check out your class schedule. Esalen would be a perfect polish on my personal style.
  • Gloria Coppola

Hi Robin! Great to see you here! Can't wait to collaborate with you too.
  • Ellen Watson

I looked at my calendar for June; I may be able to join Robin and Brita at the Festival. How wonderful for all. I'll be offering two weekends at Educating Hands in Miami, June and September, 2010, and a 100 hour training for professionals in 2011. Perhaps some of you may want to come to Miami.
I'll join Robin for one of her programs in Asheville, as she gets them rolling.
I'm so glad Esalen is making her way east.
From Japan, where Esalen Massage is called Esalen Bodywork, and is very popular. We also have great programs in Bali.

  • Mike Hinkle

Good to hear from you Ellen. I am looking forward to meeting you at Festival!
  • Mike Hinkle

I agree with Henry, if you can aford the time and money go to the source in Big Sur. But if you want to learn from Director, Brita Ostrom and trainer Robin Fann, join us in Berea, KY next summer! Trainer, Ellen Watson may be with us also!
  • Mike Hinkle

And Robin is currently teaching out of Asheville, now!
  • heidi mitrus

Hi,Just joined the group today. I'm a LMT and Trager practitioner, hoping to learn Esalen Massage someday in the near future. Have read and watched everything Esalen I could get my hands on. Ellen W.-any chance of coming close to New York to offer trainings?! Would love to learn from you! Heidi
  • Mike Hinkle

    Thanks for sharing, Henry!
  • Rebecca B Adams

Mike, I've had Robin's series of one day workshops in Esalen techniques. There are four - Intro to Esalen, Head Neck & Shoulders, Hips and Low Back, and Twists & Stretches.. Each one builds on the other. Each one is a one day class with 8 CEU's. If you register early, each class is only $95. It has got to be the best $95 I've ever spent in my life. Hopefully, next fall she will teach the 100 hour professional certification. I am taking it, if I have to borrow the money and move up there! I have clients who get off the table and hug me - say every session gets better and better. There aren't a huge number of physical techniques that I didn't already know, but the emphasis on QUALITY of touch - I think if the National Cert Board really wanted to do something to further the quality of massage and bodywork, that Esalen training should be mandatory before you could sit for their exam. MBLEX also!!! Robin is a tremendous teacher - you feel safe and accepted, and able to explore all she gives you...
I am truly grateful that destiny has brought Robin and Corey to this side of the country, and so close in NC... blah, blah blah, I could go on and on, but I'll shut up - you get the picture!!! = )
  • Mike Hinkle

Thanks for sharing! Robin and Corey are fantastic leaders and add so much to massage. I will get to a class someday. Hope you get to meet Brita Ostrom at Festival!
  • Lisa Mertz

Wow, Robin, I couldn't agree with you more about the influence of Esalen's contemplative, holistic form on *quality of touch* I rarely hear MTs say that and I often get a more reductionistic/mechanical approach. I am really looking forward to the workshops in June!
  • Donna C. Agrinsonis, LMT

I would like to know more about Robin's Esalen classes and the website.

Hello, my name is Kelly. I have been in the massage field for only a few years, and have always been interested in Esalen. I do not practice it yet but I am eager to learn and read what other fellow Esalen lovers have to talk about. I am so happy to see so many people know and practice Esalen. In school none of my peers even knew what Esalen is... I look forward to meeting everyone!

    Hi Kelly,
I fell in love with Esalen Massage and Esalen Institute after watching the Esalen video ten years ago while in massage school! Have not made it out to Big Sur yet, but i am determined to do so! Check out Essential Touch videos by Esalen Instructor Ellen Watson- amazing work! Dreaming of Esalen....
  • Ellen Watson

Thanks for the supportive words, Heidi. Robin and I are leading a group together at Esalen, September 5-10...I love teaching with Robin; as a team we cover a wide spectrum of approaches to deeply touching and moving body & spirit.
There is an Esalen Massage DVD and I have two Essential Touch DVDs, Volume I & II. Robin offers classes in Asheville. I offer an annual basic certification and in 2011, will offer a 4 week Advanced series, in Bali:))
Also have a weekend intro in Miami, June 11-13 at Educating Hands School.
    Were do you live?
  • Gloria Coppola

I have not personally studied Esalen, but have received it numerous times and watched the DVD over the years. I have also received a session from Robin. Robin is amazing! She is also teaching Esalen and is part of our massage program at Privai Academy, Asheville, NC. While I practice and teach Lomi, we have both shared the immense similarities of the presence and conscious touch both modalities bring to the table. Powerful and amazing. Every massage therapist needs to learn conscious touch.
  • heidi mitrus

  • Lee Edelberg

I just got back from 10 days as Esalen. What happened?

I spent 7 days in an excellent abdominal/core class: deep work on the iliopsoas, rectus abdominus, QL, hip rotators, etc. Learned a cool self-care technique called TRE . Soaked a couple times a day in the baths. Met with my mentor for the 500-hr certification. Gave and received massages. Met Robin's brother, Jayson, and played congas with him on the deck. Was faced daily by my own emotional static. Danced tango one night around the tables in the dining hall with another seminarian. Received a transcendent massage from a long-time crew member . Sang some kirtan. Ate great food, hung out with people and made some new friends.

All in all, another transformative experience. Any body worker who's interested in Esalen massage really should sign up and go out there for a class. There's so much going on!

  • Robin Leslie Fann

Sounds like Esalen Lee.  Glad you had such a rich time.  I will be teaching there in May with Ellen Watson if you would like to join us for a transformation experience you can contact me or Ellen for more information.

I am also teaching many Esalen massage workshops in Asheville this year.... come play with me!
