I just wanted to create this group to help get in contact with therapists in Louisiana since I'm new and not sure what resources are available to me in this state!!
Hi everyone. I'm in Lake Charles. Married to Susan Salvo (best decision I ever made). Been doing clinical massage for 20 years. Hope y'all enjoy our profession as much as I do!
Hello~ I'm in Shreveport. Doing clinical massage and reflexology for 5 years in private practice, sharing an office with an Aesthetician friend. Happy to share resources with ya'll, Blessings~
I realize that there are a lot of events that we can volunteer at in and around our cities and was wondering if anyone knew how to find out about them or if there is anything upcoming in your areas please post it!
Hello ms. Perkins!! I live in LC and I do volunteer at some events. I have one to do tomorrow (3-13-10) in Sulphur. But as far as Lafayette I dont know of any but because I am kind of in the circle with a few ppl, I can be sure to get you some information about some things in the Lafayette area
Hey LA Massage Therapists. Pls contact all your collegues and tell them about this site and encourage them to join. What a great to stay in touch and support with each other.
Hello everyone. I graduated from the Louisiana Institute for Massage Therapy almost 3 years ago and have been a therapist at LauBerge for 2 years. Still loving this profession and wanting to learn more.
Hey Caitlin, check in your area for the contact information on clubs for runners, cyclist, triathalons, etc. In Lake Charles, we have a group called Lake Area Runners that puts on various events throughout the year. Your local United Way may sponsor a Golf Classic Fundraiser - its a great event to meet people and they usually would love to have a therapist donate some preevent sportsmassage to the pros and players. Also, local Cancer societies will do benefit walks and runs. Just check with them, watch your local morning shows, and read the local paper for more info on whats going on in the community..
Congrats to anyone who took the state licensing exam last Friday! I passed! One step closer to being in business. A note, you can no longer pay for your license while you are at the board office, they require you to mail it in.
Re: License payment. Yeah, it's been that way for a while. Everything goes by postmark date for documentation. However, you can mail in the licensing fee of $125 with your $75 testing fee when you first make application for license. That way, when you pass the oral exam, your license is put in the mail ASAP.
Hey guys, I stumbled upon this site looking for some information about the Louisiana Oral Examination. I graduated and work in Texas, and we only have to take the MBLEx, etc. I was just curious if anyone could give me an idea of what the oral examination really pertains to.
Hi Laura,
Louisiana has their exam divided into two parts, a written exam covering pathology, a & p, massage, ethics, etc. (which can be either the MBLEX or the NCE) and an oral exam covering the Louisiana State Law. The oral exam is given on the last friday of every month (3rd Friday if a holiday conflicts with the last friday) at the board office in Baton Rouge. The Oral Exam consists of roughly 20 to 30 questions regarding requirements of the law - such as insurance coverage, renewal requirements, ceus, ethics, etc. It is designed to force the new therapist to familiarize themselves with the law in order to pass the exam - which, hopefully, keeps them out of trouble with the board in the future. When I was on the Board, the main problem that we had was therapists who renew their license too late and incurr late fees, fines, and penalties. If you need more specific answers, feel free to ask. Hope this helps!
Yes you can have more than one provisional. But you must submit separate provisional license applications, each signed by the sponsoring therapist. That way you can work provisionally for one therapist on certain days or at certain times and for the other therapist at different times. This would enable a recent graduate to work more. Just remember that the sponsoring therapist must be on the property and available for you to ask questions while you are doing the massage. Being in touch via cell phone is NOT good enough and could result in disciplinary action for you and the involved sponsoring therapist. Good luck!
I teach subtle body energy and care for self at a local massage college and hopefully will be offering CE's for massage therapist.
I'd like to invite massage therapists and holistic practitioners to be listed in my wellness directory..the basic listing is free.
Blessings,

Ck your inbox. Just sent you several emails containing 50ish sample questions. I tried to send in one large email, no go. GOOD LUCK FRIDAY. Let us now how you do.
