is it possible that even a small contraction via muscle cells in the fascia then offers additional stiffness for load/energy transference in fascia, aiding muscle contraction = more pull ?

and then under the same conditions but in the sensory role = when the muscular system contracts too qiuckly these same muscle cells release, allowing more elasticty in fascia, thereby absorbing excess muscular contraction= avoiding muscle rupture.

    Just a thought:)
  • Boris Prilutsky

    Hi Stephen.
in my previous comments I stated that :" fascia does influence musculoskeletal mechanics and significant and it including but in no case not limited to transmission of power at the time of muscle constructions and a specialy under heavy load" and in case if some quantities of smooth muscles
is a component of fascia/connective tissue it possible that smooth muscles playing some role(some aid) and aiding skeletal muscles function.but no doubt in my mind that main and significant support for skeleton muscles action in transmission of power under significant overload is the act of very strong connective tissue which fascia is.Dear Stephen.I did respected your post and took a part in general education speculation that both of us volunteerly got involved.what I'm trying to say and with very good intention is that techniques for release of tension within fascia cannot be based on theory that fascia containing some quantities of muscles.I believe that all our discussion was on this issue.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
the main causes of muscle tears at the time of:"when the muscular system contracts too qiuckly"is the energy disbalance within muscles, as well when fascia accumulating significant tension. Please keep in mind that tensions accumulation with in fascia resulting significant insufficiency in support of skeletal muscle action and can result situation for tears of muscles as well fascia.this is why we applying comprehensive treatment, that includes fascia mobilization/connective tissue massage to release tension within fascia, muscular mobilization for healthy/normal resting muscular tone restoration, trigger point therapy, as well post isometric relaxation techniques for balancing energy within muscles. All mentioned above modalities is an equally important for adequate treatment .more information including my hands-on demonstration can be found at my free lessons page, as well this topics in details I am explaining and demonstrating all this techniques on my instructional DVDs.
    Best wishes.

It's somewhat disappointing that we don't see these seminar much here in Indiana. However, our state massage therapy activity has increased over the last five to ten years. I'm sorry to say Indiana seems to be a little slow in this field and some others. But us Hoosiers just want to remind everyone we are catching up and keep us in mind when you setup your seminars!!! :-) Cheers!

    Charlie,

    Check your PM.

Charlie, I feel your pain. Here in Colorado Springs I don't find any seminars either. If I go to Denver I can get them all. But sometimes it is hard to get to the bigger city when the closest biggest city to you is 1-4 hours away, that being C/S. Even coming from the U.P. I know there are never any up there. Massage is big up there but really training is hard to come by. I think we have one school and that is in Houghton. So I feel your pain. I am sure that one day it will be held in every city in every country around the world.

I've been a massage therapist for over 8 years now and, without exception, I find that myofascial release and unwinding come to me with the same effort as breathing air. I feel blessed to have this gift and would love to talk with others who have found it to be as satisfying as have I.

  • Walt Fritz, PT

    Hi Kathleen,

I certainly have found it equally as satisfying. It makes so much sense to both myself and to my patients. As a practicing physical therapist for over 26 years, it works so well that I cannot understand why more PT's do not use this modality.

Water's special properties, gel sol gel give yourself 1 hour for a monumental shift in understanding.

  • Stephen Jeffrey

Recently, the new book “The Extracellular Matrix and Ground Regulation,” was mentioned. This was written by one of Germany’s leading scientists, Alfred Pischinger. It is the research that he has done for the last 30 years on the fascial system. This has just been translated into English. Basically, the research shows what John has been teaching now for close to 40 years and that there is not one nerve that touches the over 50 trillion cells in our body. It is the environment of every cell that the ground substance, the fascia’s fluid component, which should be different viscosities of gel through which all of the oxygen, nutrition, supplements, biochemistry, hormones, energy and information that every cell needs to thrive must pass through the ground substance of the fascial system to get to the cell. When the ground substance solidifies, then the cell itself is compromised disturbing inner cellular function. As the cell goes to excrete, it cannot get through the ground substance that has solidified to get to the lymphatic system becoming toxic.
It is exciting to see all of this research backing up the work we all do. To read more about ground substance and the fascial system, visit John’s latest Therapeutic Insight article. (http://www.massagemag.com/News/massage-news.php?id=12452&catid=...)

New blog post: let me know your thoughts.

Unwinding at Windmills: The Value of Evaluation

  • Andrea Stauss

"Elephants and all animals send out powerful emotional energy over long distances. The book becomes even more intriguing. Remember, this is a true story about an amazing form of emotional power and communication we all possess and can develop deeply.

    Lawrence just died.

His body was in his lodge at his jungle reserve for his family and friends to pay their farewells and lasts respects.

The people in the building heard an ever growing rumbling. They looked outside and the lodge was surrounded by huge numbers of elephants!

Different herds of elephants from separate parts of Zululand travelled long distances to share their love and gratitude for his kindness.

They surrounded his lodge for 3 days mourning."

  • Andrea Stauss

Lawrence owned a 5,000 acre animal reserve in Zululand Africa called Thula Thula. This pristine jungle had two rivers running through it, high mountain peaks and lush valleys filled with an impressive array of Africa’s wild animals, birds and reptiles.

Because of his expertise, he was asked to take on the impossible challenge of saving the lives of a herd of “rouge” elephants that were violent and dangerous.

Poachers were shooting and imprisoning members of the herd until they revolted and started killing any human that came near them.

I will not ruin the story for you by telling too much.

Lawrence was threatened many times. All they wanted to do was kill him. His skills, his patience and courage, his love can teach us all.

This book is also about “channel 3” communication. The emotional power we generate when we “center” ourselves as therapists to help our patients/clients.

  • Andrea Stauss

I wanted to share this inspiring story with everyone. I will post it in a couple different parts. I hope you enjoy it!

    They are big!

"They are gray and have a trunk and tusks and can squash you! 8,000 lbs. big. That’s about all I knew about elephants, the world’s largest land animal, until I read a new book.

If you love animals and love Myofascial Release then you will thoroughly enjoy “The Elephant Whisperer.”

This fascinating book is a true story about an amazing man named Lawrence Anthony and his connection and impressive communication skills with animals."

    Teres Major…Steak. Really?

I am a carnivore. I have come to terms with this. I was a vegetarian for a number of years, but drifted back to what was more comfortable. I know what I’m eating, even though the named cut of meat little resembles it’s anatomical name. A strip steak or ribeye give one little clue as to it’s origin. Even though I know that the tenderloin is the cow’s psoas, I feel there is a degree of separation that allows me not to think too much about its origin.

This all changed this morning, with an article in my local newspaper’s living section on the “new” steaks. Among a few innocuous named cuts was the Teres Major, as well as a recipe for this cut. My degree of separation was completely demolished. Is this crafty meat marketing or a major mistake? Maybe only those with some degree of anatomical knowledge will be bothered by this new cut. Count me in that group.

    For now,

    Walt Fritz, PT
