I am a new therapist and have interviewed at two spas. Even though I was offered these positions, my interactions with these potential employers left me feeling like I don't measure up. I have been told that most people want deep tissue massage and that if I can't provide that I will not be successful. We learned very little deep tissue techniques at the school I attended. We were even told to tell our clients that we could provide 'firm pressure' but that we were not trained in deep tissue massage.

There is an article in this month's Massage magazine by David Lauterstein of Conway-Lauterstein school of Massage in Austin, TX about Deep tissue massage. I used to demonstrate to those prospective employers what deep tissue is and once educated were better able to let prospective clients know. Now I work for myself.
