The purpose of this group is to network and share information regarding Massage Envy. This group is not officially associated with the Massage Envy franchise. It was formed simply to network and deepen a sense of community.
I have worked for Massage Envy since April 2009. Was Chosen Massage Envy's Therapist of the year for 2010. They found me as a needle in the hay stack. They employ over 12,000 therapists and it is growing as they expand into Canada and then Mexico and other resort areas. I work for Massage Envy Pensacola, FL I also teach within that clinic. I am very grateful for my job.
Another great group to start. I have never worked for ME, but have had dozens of great massages across the country at ME's and a couple of interesting ones. But I can say the same for every other establishment out there. There are varying levels of therapists. And thank goodness for that. Variety is the spice of life.
I work for ME Daly City, CA right next door to San Francisco. I love that, as a ME employee, I can focus on massage as well as training and reading while the spa gets me clients. I just recently obtained my own space and am about to get started in building my private clientele.
So glad to hear you are happy. Yes, I too have been doing a lot of continued education and just received the next slat last evening on Upper and Lower body injury along with all the Florida required classes. Our owner is arranging for us to have the Florida required State classes at our clinic beginning in Jan-May on Sunday nights for a cost of $6 per CE Hour. We have a wonderful owner and I hope you do as well. Take care.
hi my name is johnny i graduated in march of last year with honors from Antonelli College Jackson Mississippi. I worked for Massage Envy in Jackson six days out of the week , i was over booked and loved it. unfortunately , Massage Envy decided to close their doors and i lost my first love due to no fualt of my own. I live in a small town 25 miles outside of the city called Flora , mississippi is not the ideal market for massage therapy and living in the country just compounds the problem. if anyone has any advice i would truly be grateful . thank you and have a good one.
Hi Johnny, Glad you are here. I know there are other Massage Envy's in Mississippi. Have you thought about relocating or cheking into how close the next Massage Envy is to you? We recently had a therapist relocate to Pensacola from Jacksonville.
I have worked for ME for 3 and a half years now and I love my job I started out in the wooburry Mn location and just recently transfered to a location in minne. as with any job Me is not for everybody, but I love it here and i love the people i help 6 days a week if anyone has any questions I would love to help
At our Therapists meeting this evening, we were introduced to new shirts which will be coming ASAP. They are light weight and have zipper fronts. They feel much cooler than the heavy Beige shirts we have been wearing here the last 2 years I have been with them. Pants or bottoms will be Kakki for the summer and black for the winter. The color of the new shirts for us is a shade of, you guessed it right, a deep shade of purple. I am so glad. In the last 3 months Massage Envy Pensacola has done almost 6000 massages combined. New staff is currently being hired on and we are going to two shifts, 9 AM - 3 PM, and 3 PM - 9 PM. All 13 rooms in our clinic will be utilized every hour of every day if booked for 12 hours a day 7 days a week. That is a lot of massaging going on. New CE classes coming up for us beginning Feb 6, and the first Sunday night of each month through June. I will be the class monitor for 4 of these classes and get my teaching pay. Thank you Doug. I so appreciate that generosity. I do not need the CE hours as I have all of mine completed. I will continue to learn though. This opportunity does not come along every day. So far everything I have learned has helped me develope the best massage I am able to give. I am so grateful for my job at Massage Envy and the opportunities they have given me.
We are so excited for therapist. There is a brand new Association forming. it is for Massage Therapists by Massage Therapists. Please check it out and help pass the word. Massage Therapy Alliance of America
I am the lead therapist at the Mid-Town Atlanta location, I LOVE the new Shirts, just wish we did not have to pay $20 for each one we want or need. Outside of that I do like working for them. we are better off at the location I work at then most.
Our new shirts are costing us $18 each. We are excited about the new shirts as well. Do you have to wear black bottoms or do you receive the choice? We have to wear black.
we can wear black or tan, shorts or pants. i think some get to pay the $18, but out of the 30 therapist we have there are 9 of us that need the extra tall shirts and about 50% of the ladys we have are well endowed so need biger shiirts in the upper part. the "tall" shirts are $2.00 more.
I have been given the priviledge to announce that David Kornaus CMT/LMT has been chosen as the Regional Therapist of the year for the Wisconsin Region. He and many others chosen will be gloing to Arizona the first part of May to visit the Massage Envy Corporate office. David we are proud of you and thank you for the excellant work you do for Massage Envy. Congratulations to all Massage Therapists chosen for this honor. Please let us know who you are.
So i am looking for people oppinions on the new shirts cause i love the idea of black ones but the plets in the front are so bad that most of the women @ my clinic ordered the mens other then that i am supper excited for them to get to our clinic
ALL the women in the clinic I work at ordered the men’s, it was not just the plets, some of the women in my clinic are “well developed” and the way the shirts fit they showed a LOT of skin, you know what I and talking about. Now if the shirts would just get here. We have been using the “sample” ones they sent us.
Jamie I also ordered men's shirts because of not only the plets in the front but also because of the zippers. The zippers on the men's shirts were just made better, and fit more comfortably.
At our clinic meeting today, they told us about the “NEW” dress code”, we have known about the new shirts for over a month now, BUT new today, and we were told this is from the “corporate office” : all shirts must be zipped up to at least (from what they showed us)the start of the neck (collar bone level). It seems that to much “skin” shows if not, and all shirts must be tucked in at all times. WELL, I had them order me a XLT, for I have a very long torso and the XXL is no longer then the XL and way to big. The XL fits just right but is not long enough to be tucked in, so the XLT. BUT they do not have XLTs and the XXL is still not long enough to tuck. SO dear ME corporate, you can kiss my @$$. If you did not like how the shirts fit you should not be making us use them. hell some of the well developed ladies I work with cant tuck in their shirts if they don’t go up 2 sizes and then they look like a 4yo putting on their dads shirt.
We have not received our shirts yet Dannie. They are on backorder. We have never had to tuck in our s**** and I doubt our owner will make us. He is pretty easy going in that regard. Now I can under stand the zipper part. On the gold shirts though there were many days mine was not button as it was just too hot. Always remember we lead by example. It is called let it begin with me!
I understand Darcy, EVERONES shirts are backordered. We got about 20 “trial” shirts and they let us use them for now. The problem is and this is how it was told to me, the corporate office “don’t want to be able to see chest hair OR any cleavage”!!! For me to do that I have to have it zipped ALL the way up and so do some of the ladies we work with. These shirts are not as cool most time as they think they will be and this will make some of us sweat more! We have received complaints that the “therapist was sweating a lot” and the rooms we have are not that cool at the best of times, even when we bring in fans. So this will be getting worst when we have the new shirts, I think.
Our owner keeps our A/C at 72 degrees and we do have fans in every room. Some of our guys wear a light t-shirt under their shirts to help absorb the sweat and also help cover the chest hairs. Same with the ladies and the cleavage. I personally think anything is better than the gold/beige shirts.
The A/C here is on 69, but they way the place was designed there is not much air that gets in the rooms, most stay about 75. I am one of them that sweat when it is 60 degrees out and can be in a t-shirt and shorts when it is 50 outside. I tried the undershirt one time all I got out of it was a very wet t-shirt LOL, we will see how it goes. Hell the room I am in today got to 80 WITH a fan in it.
Well Dannie, Our owner came in today and announced to us that Massage Envy Pensacola was #1 in their region and #2 nationwide in sales. I find this so surprising after he told us all that the sales staff was selling sub-standard massages because they rate 82% out of a possible 100%. Interesting I say.
We get the same thing, we have the highest sales in the state, and we must be neck and neck with you for our sales are at 80-81% in the region, BUT we are still told we are not doing as well as we should be. This pisses me off for the next M.E. to us in sales is at 68 to 70%.
We have decided out owner is bi-polar. He tells me he wants to push us to our highest potential in the name of "God" but just does not know quite how to go about it in a tackful way I am learning. I think at times I am teaching him.
I feel ya Darcy, we are #1 in Ga, out of 19 clinics, and we are told the same thing by our regional director ALL THE TIME! We have the highest new member numbers, the lowest turnover and we get attended 2 times a month (for they think we are “fixing” the numbers) but always get a 90+ and all are therapist have 800+ hrs of training (GA requires 500hrs), hell out of the 32 therapist we have 13 have 1000+ hrs and 4 have over 2000 hrs of training and we still are told we do sub-standard massages. You know that “retell eye” thing, we get bad ones from members telling corporate that they can’t get in to get a massage, for we were told we need to see more “prospects” and we don’t have the open times for members (we were down to 2 prospects every 4 hrs and were told we HAD to see at lest 4 every hour now). Our prospect to member numbers were at 46% and it only has to be at 28%. Now it’s down to 24% for we found that the regional director is telling the other clinics (he owns 4) to send prospects to us.
The American Massage Conference is here in Atlanta this year and 6 of ME’s big corporate guys are going to be there so we are taking a LONG list of complaints to them. 8 pages as of today.
What do you all think of the new shirts? We got 20 mock ups of them, in the winter we all LOVED them, now that it is 89 – 94 out side we HATE them, they are hot and hold on to sweat and you smell it after about 4 hours. And if you do not clean them RIGHT AWAY they hold on to that smell. You have to use a lot of detergent to get the smell out.
We have not received our new shirts yet so I have no idea. We are still wearing the gold shirts.
I met CG Funk last year at the World Massage Festival. www.worldmassagefestival.com She is VP for Massage Envy. She knows there are problems with some of the owners. She sent me an email and asked me to personally consider attending the American Massage Conference. I have met all the folks running it and I know too much and am not impressed with them. It is sad but the truth. Also Massage Envy and ABMP are hosting the Friday night meet and greet which is by invitation only and they are advertising in the Massage Today Magazine that they are serving Beer and Wine at that event. Just my thoughts only, Beer and Wine do not belong at a Massage Convention. It they want to take it out side to a resturant that is a whole different situation. But to have it available at the convention and advertise so, to me is so wrong. I did send Les Sweeny the President for ABMP an email letting him know I disapproved and how I felt about my membership dues being used to buy Beer and Wine to serve at a Massage Convention.
Dannie...Are you talking about the new gray shirts that are coming out in October? I hope they aren't stinky...that would be bad. I'm in Phoenix and it's like 113 in the summer. Right now our shirts are white and they are impossible to get clean, even soaking them in bleach for 2 hours. I had high hopes for the new shirts.
Hello all , hoping everyone is having an enjoyable week ? I am .. With respect to all , seems like there is more complaining going on here , compared to positive feed back .. Our clinic here in Madison , wi is focused on providing a wonderful service to all of our clients and the needs
Katherine, yep the new gray ones. I am hoping they change some from the mock ups we got. In GA we can no longer use the white ones = (and I liked them. It seems that the new shirts hold onto the sweat and even if you leave them for a day they start to smell, and hold on to it!
David, there is negative and positive on here, and most of the negative is about the corporate not the clinics themselves. Also this is, for some, the only place to air their grievances and to get their feelings out.
Dannie I so agree with you on having a voice here and airing our feelings. It is so wrong to tell folks to stuff their feelings and not say how they feel. That is what is wrong with America.
Hold on Folks ...I'm all for voicing thoughts & comments , lets do it in a postive & productive way , example is ... sounds like no one likes the new shirts ... cool ... get the facts and present it to some body who can do something about it
Blowing off steam on a chat line isn't going to solve anything
I'm just back from M E convention @ head-quarters /Arizona , what a wonderful time
Darcy , if U have something U would like to say to me , please do
Dannie , I appreciate your feed back / comments ...

REALLY??? It’s good to be all LOVE and Light and S*@T like that WHEN you have a CM, owner and a good regional manager that give a damn about the therapist, the bad thing is 90% don’t. Believe me, the people that talk on this chat have good people looking out for them, on other chat rooms for ME I have been in they are working in hell with CMs, owners and regional managers that don’t give a damn. Hell the Regional manager here in GA is one of the bad ones. Our RM has told all the clinics here that they should NOT HAVE lead therapist, hell your beloved CG Funk has said that the clinics really don’t need a lead therapist. In my clinic I am the lead, the only one in all the 19 clinics in GA. the corporate office and CG Funk has NEVER returned a call from a clinic here when we call with a problem. Just remember that not even therapist works in a good clinic with good manages. I will be seeing some of the corporate people and CG this weekend with a (now) 5 page list of problems we have in the GA clinics. We will see what they do (if they will do a thing).
I must agree , we really don't need a lead therapist ... we all should be that within ourself .. allot of us , by-pass the lead and take issues straight to manager
If U dis-like your job as much as U seem , why R U working where U do ? just a thought
Isn't the wellness of R clients the important factor here ? how can one do their job well , if they R unhappy ?
Talk to your , managers , owners ... everyone has a heart ... be postive on changes that can happen ...
name calling is not the answer , even if you have reason
all 19 clinics in GA cannot be a " nightmare " per say .. in which to work ?
Maybe you're right , and I'm lucky to have the situation I'm in , speaking for myself ... I wouldn't work , where I wasn't being treated fairly and with respect
I wish it were that simple david. I don't know how other clinics are but it is very difficult for our manager to find time to speak with employees. She has over 50 therapists to manage. I've been trying to get my schedule changed and finally did after 8 months. I've been trying to discuss my maternity leave for 2 months now.
Well we got the new shirts in today, very disappointed in them. They did not send us the large sizes, and we needed 18 of them, the companies we get them from don’t do “tall” shirts so they are a little short for 3 of us (so short that we cannot tuck them in like the uniform policy tells us, the XL and the 2XL are the same length). They are thicker then we were thinking and HOT! Also the sleeves are a little long for a massage therapy shirt, the XL go all the way to my elbow (it covers my elbow). So disappointed in ME corporate, one more time they did not think at all.
