    Hi Java Jeff,

I joined to keep up with Hawaii massage and because Hawaii is the only state in the Union, I haven't made it to yet. I figure, I'll want to visit some folks when I'm there and maybe find common ground. We brought Aunty Margaret into the Hall of Fame in 2006. She has quite a life story.
  • Jeff Sims

    aloha Mike
i just now noticed your message. thanks for joining us on the Valley Isle. i'm not familiar with the hall of fame, but am grateful that you honored Aunty.

I am considering a visit to Maui from the Midwest, and looking to make some connections. I would love to teach there, if you know of a school that might be interested in a CE/seasonal position.
  • Jeff Sims

what subjects do you teach Mirra?
  • Lorrie J. LMT, CKTP

I have a client that spends the winter months on Maui. She has multiple health issues and I would like to have some therapist(s) to refer her to while she is on the Island. I don't know specifically where her condo is, but I can find out. I would love to find someone who is very experienced with medically fragile clients. Thanks so much for any help.
  • Angie Ringwald

Aloha Jeff! Thanks for setting up this great communication tool for therapists in Maui and beyond! We all have so much to learn from each other. I'm proud to say that I received my education on the healing island of Maui and am thankful to call you one of my teachers! Since leaving Maui, I was a therapist for Bamboo YogaPlay in Dominical, Costa Rica and now have a massage practice at Edge Performance Fitness in north Portland, OR. All the best in the New Year!
  • Jeff Sims

Lorrie ~ i'm based on the westside of maui (lahaina/kaanapali/kapalua) and would be happy to refer. let me know if you want to converse off-line so i can better understand the client's special needs.

Aloha all! I currently live in California and was wondering what the requirements were to work as an MT in Maui as I'm toying with the idea of moving there. Any tips and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  • Jeff Sims

Aloha Carolyn ~ Hawaii requires 570 hours (http://hawaii.gov/dcca/pvl/boards/massage/application_publications/...) and a written exam. Do you have your A&P, kinesiology and pathology hours?
  • Carolyn Forlee

Thanks JJS. I do have my A&P and Pathology hours but not kinesiology, guess I should start looking into classes.
So do you work independently or for someone else? How is the job market out there?
  • Jeff Sims

i practice and also teach massage therapy on Maui. i practice in an chiropractor's office and the economy is not improving. visitor counts are up a little over last year (which was down), but the visitors are spending less, and that translates into very lean times.
