Hi Kris, glad to meet you. I'm a MT in Blue Springs Mo., a suburb of Kansas City. I noticed you were talking to someone about the massage being specific to the clients wants, and I'm sure, needs. That is what I've based my work on: Doing the massage as much as possible to fit the clients wants and needs. It is a waste of time and money to do otherwise in my opinion. Most people don't seem to do that at all. I don't know how many times I've gone to get a massage, pointed out that I needed extra work in a particular area and then got the same standard massage they give everyone. The majority of the people I''ve worked on come in with heavy pain in neck & shoulders, lower back & hips, usually from stress. They're looking for relief and I think it's a disservice to them not to make those areas the the prime objective. A little all over massage to tie things together is needed too but it's not the most important part; pain relief is what people need most. in my opinion.
Nice to meet you. I hope all is well.I am currently in NJ and I am attending massage therapy school and looking forward to being involved in the massage therapy community. thank you for the kind welcome.
Thanks for the friend invitation. When you find yourself in Denver, be sure to let me know and I'll have you come up to my studio in Evergreen. Namaste!
Good to be connected. Have you been practicing for a while?
I got my training in Los Angeles - Massage School of Santa Monica (1996). Still in practice.
Do you know by any chance an international network of massage therapists? I always had a fantasy of creating a network where we get to travel around the world and hang out with like minded people and learn and exchange...
Thanks for touching in, Kris. Sorry to hear that the financial climate is still tough for a lot of people out there. My business in CT has been fairly stable. I believe the trauma care specialty helps, as there are few other practitioners.
Hi Kris, Thanks for the invite. Sorry to hear about the economy in Los Vegas. I haven't seen much change in Northern MN, the people (very few) who got massage before the recession still receive massage. It's more about getting people to try massage, it's still a foreign concept to most people up here. Very few Massage Therapists up here can survive without a part time job. We just don't expect the phone to be ringing and when we get a call we're thrilled. Hope things get better for you! Take care, Michael Kapsos
I'm from New Jersey and I'm in the middle of a class at the moment, but it's nice to know there is a website "just for us" where we can communicate. Stay in touch.
Thank you for the welcome Kris! Its wonderful to have a place just for massage therapists. I will read more about you on your page~as a nation and as therapists it is greatly beneficial to understand how our peers and fellow Americans are doing around the country, so that we can help our profession and our society stay healthy. I am very sorry to hear that Las Vegas is in such a dire position, I would like to know more. Please stay in touch or ask any questions that you like. I believe that in the climate of today's economy, there are many way to increase our self-sufficiency and independence without depending on government intervention. I am working to build a network of people who'd like to build an intentional community that would also serve as a wellness center, arts colony and organic farm, where bartering would rule the day. Inexpensive or even free holistic health care would be the goal, which is so difficult to find in the USA. Its sounds utopian, but versions of this are already in place, for example at the newly organizing Patch Adams Clinic in Philadelphia. There is so much to say, let's start talking!
Nice to meet you as well Kris. I am new to the site and hope to get wonderful feedback from other bodyworkers such as yourself. I am in my final semester at CCMT in Connecticut. I willl graduate in April and can't wait to do what I love so much so, no you are not intruding. I will welcome any tips of making my clients feel comfortable and safe in my practice.
Thanks for the welcome, too. I am a recent massage school graduate (last June) who recently started working at a Massage Envy in the Chicago area. I've come to realize I have a lot to learn and am trying to do so. Sorry I don't have a picture up yet, will try to do so soon. Wow! I just looked up and saw you mention Aikido. I had been involved in Aikido off and on for many years, never progressing very far. It seems you and I may have some things in common. Stay in touch. Louis
Hi Chris, it's nice to connect with you. I'm new to the site so just getting use to all the ins and outs. I am in the middle of this Il Blizzard and just chillin with my daughter today.
I liked your "rant" on follow-up & customer service :) I believe we are becoming a society of people wanting things without wanting to work for it...land of the entitled people! The golden rule will always apply - treat others as you would like to be treated!
How can befriending be a bother? I am still getting used to forums and posts, etc. I know my personality will want to get to know everyone, so i am ticled to be contacted as I get my own feet wet.
Are you going to the Massage World Record event in Vegas on Mother's Day? I was thinking of flying in from Chicago to check it out! Sounds like it would be a blast!
Hi Kris! Thanks for the add......Im just joining Massage Professionals as a student so if you have any tips for me on how to navigate or fix my page let me know!! I'm just trying to figure it out!!
