As of this moment only local permits and business licenses are required, but that may change as early as September when the Statewide Voluntary Licensing of Massage Therapists is due to begin, if the powers-to-be get their act together and decide how they want it to work and at what costs (yet to be determined). Until then, and depending on when you graduate from school, you can expect to be under the "umbrella" of the Coachella Valleywide Massage Ordinance which has every city (at least that I recall), EXCEPT Palm Springs, participating. The first year is $150.00 for your Primary ("Mother") city Permit application, $40 +/- LiveScan Fingerprinting (w/in 2 wks), and clean TB test results. The City where you apply should have to packet needed to complete. After that process, you can also apply to other cities, if you wish, for their permits with fees ranging from $10 - $25/per city with copies of your completed packet in hand.

With every city you will also need a business license to conduct legal business within. Each city charges its own fees separately. Providing massage in your home, aka Home Occupation Permit, varies from city to city.
I can't answer from personal experience because I am strictly an Outcall Therapist, but as such I only pay for the HOP in my Resident city. Hope that answers your questions.

    Anything else?
