Hello Stephanie, and how was dinner? A few years ago one of the hospitals offered a 3 week training course called "end of life doula." We were trained to work with patients, family members & caregiver, and hospice & hospital staff. We were basically tought how to deal with death, a subject that seems to taboo. There were social workers, clergy and bereavement counselors on staff.
In the hospice unit, we sit with the person while they are transitioning, we also spend time with the family and caregivers, just being present. Not sure but I guess it could be similar to a birthing doula. We massaged where we could, we did meditation exercises, viaualization techniques, used relaxation music and did a lot of holding and comforting. hope this information was helpful. Note, you do not have to be a massage therapist to be an end of life doula.
I am Mrs. Margaret Miller, an aging widow suffering from long time illness (Esophageal Cancer). I have some important information (charity proposal) for you, May God continue to bless you, Please reply (margaretmargaretmiller@gmail.com) for more details.
