I'd like to discuss how to market to the growing group of social media users--people over 50!

http://mashable.com/2010/08/28/social-media-stats-adults/

This article recently appeared in Mashable.com.  Let's say that I'm over 60, I'm active, witty, have expendable income, I'm intelligent, adventurous and dealing with a variety of aches and pains (as Leonard Cohen says in one of his songs "I ache in places where I used to play").  Where you're most likely to meet me is on-line.  I'm an active (i.e. daily) participant in several social media platforms.  I'd consider myself an advanced beginner, maybe even intermediate level social media user (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube--I know what a hashtag is, and I know how to use one, and I tweet from my cell phone).  Please tell me how you would market to me?

I wouldn't market to this group through the social media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube. I would research the medias to find where these folks congregate and market that group with spa parties, multi level mktng events, workshops or education meets. there I would demonstrate my service integrated with the product being shown, discussed or delivered.
Actually, I'm finding that my peers are using facebook more than I would have imagined. The website, MyMotherJoinedFacebook.com is funny because facebook is no longer the exclusive domain of the young. And LinkedIn in particular is very attractive to mature adults. My point is that online IS where people of my age group are congregating---either for professional connections, as with LinkedIn, or to share pictures of grandkids. And certainly, many LMP's are now using Facebook and Twitter as ways of communicating with existing clients.

Hi Laurie!

I hate to assume, so I'll ask the obvious question: You are seeking this group as potential massage clients?

If so, I've written an E-book named Massage Marketing Using Facebook. The method explained in this book works for all social media sites and for any age related group. Why does it work so well?

Because I explain how to introduce yourself to people and how to conduct a conversation. It sounds simple, I know, yet the vast majority of people really don't know how to communicate on-line. Especially when introducing themselves to someone they don't know, or possibly attracting them as a client.

Yes, the E-book touches on the basics of Facebook and how to professionalize your page, but the gist of it is in dealing with fellow human beings on-line, like: How to introduce yourself, how to begin a conversation, what questions to ask and what questions to avoid, HOW to ask questions, etc., etc.

Take a look and let me know what you think: Massage Marketing Using Facebook

This is in response to @KrisKelly's comment. Kris, I did purchase your ebook. It has a lot of very fine suggestions, which I will read and absorb. I will certainly be using it. Actually, at the moment, I'm focusing less on building my massage clientele and more on becoming a great resource for other massage practitioners and other small businesses in my area, although I also have a vested interest in building the clientele for the spa where I work on the weekends. They do not presently have a facebook fan page, and I will be using some of the information from your ebook to help build a case. Thank you! By the way, my fan pages are: http://www.facebook.com/ReachThemOnline1 and http://www.facebook.com/laurieanhealing My personal blog, about my journey toward becoming a Trager Pracitioner is http://www.laurieanhealing.blogspot.com In it, I also talk about what I am learning about Parkinson's, as I do my Trager practice sessions for my sister-in-law.
