Do any of you practic equine massage as well as regular massage?

I recently was certified last year and I enjoy doing it. I have a few clients but was wondering if there were others out there that were doing it and what advice you had regarding marketing etc..

Thanks

Hi Melissa,

No I don't and I have a horse!  I know it's bad of me, but I have an equine MT that works on my horse for me.  Regarding marketing, do you have any Parelli Natural Horsemanship instructors or students in your area?  If you do a good job for them, they will refer you to their friends with enthusiasm!  That's how I found the MT for Rowdy.

I recently started doing Lymphatic Massage on horses. They are so appreciative and I am learning from owners that their city stabled horses get all kinds of immune system syndromes. My human clients are now worried I will leave them for the Equine world.

Curious...whats the pay for working on horses compared to humans?  I would imagine that working on a million dollar race horse pays more then say a lower level race horse?

Seems to be about the same around here as people. I will charge extra because I must work at the stables away from my clinic. So asking $100 for lymphatic massage. Heard that others are charging $90 for general massage. But for competition horses I hear $200-$300 being charged just like other celebrity massages.

I wonder who is the top of the line as far as massage goes for those high end race horses?   Im afraid of horses myself...Ive worked on a few people that have been kicked by horses...Not a good thing...

I've been kicked by a few people. ;-)

Daniel did you do a specific class for that to do on horses? You charge way more then me but I'm in MN so the horse market up here can be a little tough at times. Our race horse community is fighting for a Racino and it isn't happening so I'm affraid that our track in the next 4 years will be closing and we will lose a huge part of our horse community because of it.

Have you done any carnial sacral work with horses at all either? I've been trying to decide if I want to take continuing education on that.

I have not taken any specific class in animal or specifically equine massage. I simply apply my techniques and my equine anatomy knowledge. It started with a friend's horse that had a large swelling below the mandible. It drained in one session. I am now working on others but it is a sideline. Most of my time is spent at my clinic working on people. I have not tried CST on horses because I have not had a situation that seems to require it. But who knows there may be one in the future.
