massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

hi :)  I am interested in hearing from PROFESSIONAL massage therapists who have worked in a Spa or Salon.

I am trying to think of ways to reward massage therapists in my salon for productivity and just general awesomeness.

i'm thinking about stuff that is small but makes a difference. Good parking spot for the month, supervisor changes sheets and stocks hot towels for a day, supervisor cleans and sanitizes the hot rocks a few times,... stuff like that.

any suggestions? thx :)

How about rewarding them with the title of senior massage therapist.  Then add an additional fee of $10.00 a massage if the client was a senior therapist...That rewards you and your therapists...and motivates other therapists to excel too.   So you have two rates....say its $70 an hour for a massage .  If you want a senior therapist, its $80 ...  Thats a good reward.. I think.

Nothing beats a nice heartfelt note that you appreciate their hard work! Buy the staff lunch delivered to the spa. A free product you know they like. Honestly I probably would not want my supervisor changing my room, sounds a little annoying. I LOVE when my boss or receptionist notices that I might need a little help or break and offers to help me. We all help each other where I work. :) On that same note helping a therapist at the end of the day to he/she can pick up kids/go home is a very nice gesture. We get "bonus pay" after the first 10 massages per week we get a few $'s more per session.

Thank you Gordon and Gael, these are great ideas :)  I need all the help I can get! :)

give them a gift certificate for a free massage. That way the therapist giving them a massage gets paid and the person getting the massage doesn't have a trade hanging over their head.
