massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

I'm a student in my last semester of MT school.  My case study this semester has Meniere's Disease.  Even when I first started it seemed that a simple Swedish massage help drain his ear and gave him short term relief.  I have been focusing on NMT techniques to the muscles of the neck, face and head - I have even found trigger points in his masseter and temporalis!  I suspect his forward head position (which is improving), stress and some car wrecks from when he was younger may be playing a role.    I did  a little bit of research and it seems I'm doing the right things but his attacks are still severe and unpredictable. I saw some articles that stated that cranosacral therapy is very helpful for Meniere's as well as found some comments on Meniere's forums where they were saying it helped a lot!

I'm finishing up the semester and would like to find somebody to refer my case study to.  How do I know who is a good person to send him to?  I've seen everything from a weekend workshop to extensive training but when it comes to practitioners, I can't tell if somebody just took a workshop or is very experienced in CST.  My case study is really finding his lifestyle on the decline and I would like to make sure whoever I refer him to is a great therapist.

Laura,  why don't you post your location. Maybe someone here will know someone there.

L.

Oh, sorry about that.  We are in Northern VA - Alexandria to be exact.  But will to travel to Arlington and Fairfax County.

I know some techniques for Vertigo.  And as we all know almost anyone can enjoy and benefit some with massage therapy.. But thats not what I would consider to be something specifically treatable by massage?  But I dont know everything.

Laura,

Congrats on being finished with school. It sounds like you are very well on your way. You can check the internet for NMT and CST trained practitioners through Upledger.  Go to their website or the International Alliance of Healthcare Educators and look for practitioners who have completed the advanced workshops and/or are certified.

Best of luck,

jh

Years ago I took NMT classes with David Kent (who know has his own business) If I recall one of the reasons he got into massage was due to his having had Meniere's and NMT is what helped him. Maybe you can try to contact him.

the jaw muscles TPs don't suprise me if he has forward head posture.  good job finding those. FHP puts more stress on the jaw joint and its muscles.  Don't forget longus colli for FHP, it one of my favorite muscles to release. :)   As for the referal if you end up having to google to find someone you could call and talk to 3 people.  3 calls is a reasonable amount of effort.  Lots of us love to talk about our business and favorite modalities.
