I met a lady the other day that has been getting massages in a Chiropractic clinic several times a month because of hip pain.  She told me her hip is not any better, but she likes getting the massages because she only has to pay $20.00 for the one hour massage session.. She only sees the Chiropractor because that's the only way she can get the referral for inexpensive massages.  That clinic is very busy.. I know that clinic. She described where her pain was... I told her that I could probably eliminate it on one session( I think I can)...She said wow, if you could do that, it would be a miracle.  She said $95.00 is expensive.. I like challenges, and to prove a point or two,  I told her don't worry, I will take care of it.  Just make an appointment and come in and see me before Dec. 1st.   She said she would... So if I do make her pain go away in one session.. That will mean something, won't it?  But even if I can't.  I often wonder what would happen if Chiropractors couldn't bill insurance companies?  Right now because of  insurance money, a Chiropractic clinic can be very busy without even helping anybody because of cheap massages.. lol   Thats true in her case anyway. ( No wonder I can't afford health insurance). I hope she does come in.. It will be interesting.  Anyway for me personally. If I can't help anybody within one or two sessions.  I tell them I can't help them...They can see me anytime they want for massage, but I'm not going to be specific for their problem.   And when I mean help.. I mean at least 50% improvement after  the first session.  I hope she comes in.

I hope she comes in, and I hope you can help her!  That's also ridiculous - there are so many reasons health insurance is so expensive and this is definitely on the list!

I think when people have to pay out of pocket they are much more demanding that the money is wisely spent.

I'm not bragging but I have several clients who have realized that the "darling" chiropractor here in town really wasn't doing anything for them at all...

I hope she does come in..We will see?  Yea, if people are hurting and spending their own money.. You better help them in a very noticeable way, very very quickly, or they're gone .Long treatment plans with no improvement after each session are out the window.  If I cant help them noticeably within a couple of sessions...And that does happen of course( not as often now though).  Some of those clients continue to see me from time to time for general massage anyway. Because they know I seriously tried to help them.

I've had people I couldn't help, but they know I really tried!  And learned new things to see if it would help.  I'm not experienced enough yet to be able to always make a difference so quickly - although it's fun when I can!

It is interesting though - even if people aren't investing a lot of money, they are investing time and effort.  Seems like people would be interested in that being well spent too!

Very good points! I hope she makes an appointment with you and greatly benefits from it. Good luck!
