People always ask me why I don't have my own place?  I tell them I do.. I love working in the spa.. Being an employee.  Sure I could make potentially more money in my one practice.. but Im lazy and could never duplicate the beautiful facility and wonderful staff I work with.  Massage therapists, Estheticians, Hair Stylists, front desk staff and a bunch of other people that keep things going.  Awesome great people to work with every day... And another reason is the two $40,000.00 Vichy Massage rooms... I can give an awesome massage in those rooms.. Its a fifty five minute hands on massage followed by twenty minutes of water massage.. I'm able to do whatever kind of soft tissue work the client wants or needs...plenty of time... fifty five minutes.  After that I use this big hose, they call it a Scots hose for some reason...I guess it sounds better then a fire hose. But I use that like a portable Jacuzzi jet over the entire back of their bodies...Temperature and pressure is adjusted to the clients liking.  Perfect.  Usually about 104 degrees...It feels awesome after a good massage.. You know how good a hot shower or bath feels.. And you of course know how good a massage feels.. They both give a very relaxing feeling to the body/mind... However they are both different....Well you get both of those feelings together with this service.. Its like 1+1 = 3.... A synergistic effect.  Its a mind blowing experience... People are Zoned afterwards.   Like I said, after the hands on massage I use the hose like a portable Jacuzzi jet over the entire back side of the body.. Then after that, there are seven overhead showers that come into play... They make a waterfall down the clients back for five minutes or so... and while the client is under the  waterfall, I'm sprinkling cool water and essential oils around their body.  The client is  under a towel that is manipulated around during the service to give maximum skin exposure to the wonderful 104 degree water... I'm wearing swimming trunks and a T-shirt... The tile floor is heated...When I get a Vichy massage... I always feel like I'm floating down the Amazon river during a rain storm with some kind of safe life jacket on or something like that... lol   Its a very experiential experience and a zone out for everyone. I will attach pictures of the Vichy rooms.  I think I have two of those scheduled in a row tomorrow..Fun fun.. They always generate big tips too.  And I can do medical type work in those rooms too if necessary, and finish off with the water... Its awesome.  I am definitely able to enhance my massage work in those rooms.

That water massage you are talking about sounds awesome to receive and lots if fun to do. Gonna have to look around my area to see if I can find a place that does it so I can experience it.

Yea the cool thing about it is, they don't loose out on a hands on massage... And the water just enhances it... I did some  really good work in there today... I had a 26 year old grad student, that has had lower back pain from an auto accident five years ago...It was her right lower back..She tried chiropractic for six months before she quit on her own.. It  was not helping... Then she went through a complete Rolfing series.. Her comment was that it was very expensive.  She never had any relief from that pain... Well today she did.. She had two trigger points.. One in her Quadratus near where it connects to her hip.. And another one very close by in her Gluteus Medius.   After her massage I was able to use the hot water directly on those areas.. She left that room pain free...She is going to come in three days from now for a follow up.. See how it is...She told me that she never got up from any ones table pain free before.. She was very happy. I might get a testimonial from her.. We will see how she is next time I see her... But the luxurious hot water really helped enhance my work...Even if I cant help someone dramatically like her...The water just enhances the massage period.  I will attach pictures of the trigger points I was able to eliminate.  It was the Gluteus Medius. TrP1 and the Quadratus Lumborum #2 . It was not a perfect day though..I always look forward to a new client.  But my last  massage canceled  when she found out I was a male.  She switched to one of the female therapists.

Wow - her whole lower back/hip area must have been a problem for her!

Gordon, I keep hoping for a continuing ed class in Fairbanks! :)  After seeing photos of the vichy rooms and hearing more about it, I've got my fingers crossed I can come up with a good excuse to get up there!!  I've got stuff in my SI area and left shoulder that no one has been able to help with yet.  I'm doing a lot better since I started doing yoga every night, and push ups.  But still, some help would be good!!

Oh yeah, and that stinks that she didn't want a male therapist.  We have such issues as a society...

Im in Anchorage.. so dont go to Fairbanks.. lol   well unless you want too.  I would travel but my wife is ill.  I would like to work on you Therese.

Here is a copy of a thread from a long time ago when I was explaining what a trigger point is.. I got all kinds of flack from some saying that its not true and that I'm misleading people in here.. I read Travells and Simons books cover to cover five times.. And they are or were the leading authorities on muscular pain.  I was told that information was not in those books.. but it is.. and I will send a reference to that too.. Once you understand what a trigger point is, how massage can make them go away, and how they contribute to almost all pain syndromes.. You can help a lot of people...The illustrations from the link above are directly from their books. Myofacial Pain and Dysfunction the Trigger Point Manual.

I got it wrong - good to know!  I'm sorry to hear that your wife is ill.

Thanks for all the reference info on trigger points.  It's good to read your definition repeatedly - I don't have all the details memorized so thanks for the reminder!

I didn't know that Simons was an MD - an aerospace physician no less.  He must be brilliant!

Gosh Therese, I wish I could work on you... You are the kind of client I really like to work on.. Its not that Im such a great healer, and I know not all pain is trigger point pain...Its just the most neglected aspect of peoples pain.. And thats what I focus on...Other wise they just get a good massage.  So for me.. Its a win win...My perspective is - Once any underlying pathology is ruled out for pain.. Its soft tissue work all the way.. Thats my truth anyway. So far.

Seriously, I'm keeping an eye out for classes up there.  Now I'll look in the right city! :)

Just worked on my Vietnam Vet - we are adjusting his massage schedule around his deer hunting schedule!  He was having trouble with his left shoulder and upper arm.  I found 2 giant trigger points/muscle knots in the infraspinatus.  Got those dealt with and the whole area felt better!

Then I needed to do a bit of CranioSacral Therapy on him - he hit the top of his head climbing into a deer stand and jammed his neck - occiput/atlas.  I got that to let go and he fell asleep!  It was a good session.

Good work...I did some really healing work today too.   .Might talk about it later?  Not sure if people wanna hear what my work day was like?  But it was a good day.

I appreciate everyone's stories. More so with the reference to the exact tps,
It's her loss she didn't want a male therapist. We try to book up our male therapist but still make it clear at booking what's up, a walk out happen recently though.
