Years ago, over twenty, I worked in an Acupuncture clinic within a Medical clinic. there was one big central waiting room with a pharmacy surrounded by the different doctors offices and labs. One morning when I came to work I noticed this women that I had seen many times in the grocery stores and around the area where I lived.  I didnt know her, but we always nodded at each other in recognition as we passed each other.  Well there she was in the waiting area, she looked horrible, and she was holding her head.  I asked her whats wrong.. She said I have had this really bad headache for four days and its not letting up. They want to do some blood work on me and then I have to get an MRI.  I asked her , Where does it hurt?  She said Right on top of my head.. I freaked out to myself because I had just finished reading Travells Myofacial Pain and Dysfunction book for the third time and the trigger point pain pattern that seemed the most unusual too me was that of the Splenius Capitis.  Its a circle pain right on top of the head.  I had a busy schedual and my client was due any second.  And the women with the headache had an appointment with the Internal medicine doc at the same time.  Anyway I said to her come into my office real quick, I want to check something out about your head ache.  She layed on my table and I palpated her neck. I touched the Splenius Capitus area near the top of her neck and she about jumped off the tablle. Then she went back out into the waiting room.. Well I was all hyper excited because I knew that was her headache.   So I marched right in the MDs office and  asked if I could talk to him. The nurse went back to the docs office and came back and said the doctor has a minute.  I talked to him all excited and said that I could help his patient and told him where the pain was coming from.  But he looked like I was bothering him and that I was an idiot.. lol  A nut case of some sort.  So anyway I left and had to go to work, I was a few minutes late for my first client. As I walked by the women with the headache I told her to come in and see me as soon as she can because I think I can help her with her headache.  So long story short, she came in next week.  She told me the blood tests and scans found nothing. She still had her hedache but it was only about half of its intensity as the week before.  She was taking some kind of pain med.   I rubbed her neck for a half hour and her headache was completely gone when she got up off the table.  A circle of pain right on top of the head is a very distinct pain pain pattern.  Ive only seen that a couple times.  And PS - The medical comunity still doesnt know anything about it. I attached an illistration of the pain pattern.

That may be part of my headache issue!!  My neck is a mess and I have pain all over my head but at times it's really bad right over my eyes, just like in your picture.  My MT is going to be here in about 30 minutes to work on me (90 minutes!  Yay!) and I'll have her check out the splenius capitis.  Actually, now that I think about it, I know I have a problem with it because my massage school instructor said so.  I've just never had anyone until now that was capable of doing anything about it.  Just palpated myself and found the bugger!  But that's a difficult spot to self-massage.  Just had a HUGE neck pop.  Woo hoo!

Trigger points is one area that we weren't taught much about and that I've always meant to study more.

Amazing and frustrating how much medical doctors don't know, isn't it? Especially how much they shrug off any method or cure that didn't involve blood tests, expensive mri's, scans, or drugs.

Way to go!
