ok...this is our safe haven where our clients don't know right? so tell the truth. how many of you actually practice what you preach. or am i the ONLY one that doesn't quite measure up to doing what i know i need to do to be feeling better?

currently...i know i should be exercising WAY more. i should definitely be eating a lot better. oh and those regular massages went away after i graduated.

but the plus side...this site brings me into a network where i can have my friends push me and motivate me. so here's to another day of trying to get it right. :)

Yoda>>>> Hhmnmhmmhhhmmmmmm Try? DO, or DO NOT... There is no try.

I'm in the boat with you Lisa. I believe it is a human condition to not be all that perfect. We have the knowledge, but don't always practice it. I suppose it is similar to the statistic that the average life span of western medical doctors is in the 50's range. I know it is just a matter of time before my habits catch up with me and I am forced to treat myself better.

Do you think most therapists are martyrs at heart? We'll treat others well way before we treat ourselves.

Peace
Darn it Lisa, I thought you were my friend, but haven't done that yet. It will follow this reply. So, as your friend, exercise more, try to eat a little better, and remember how great you felt when you were getting massaged every day in school. But also, give yourself a break now and then, you are a great forum poster!
I do get regular massages, partially for my own well-being and also to support fellow therapists that I think are good while they build their business. Staying in good shape and eating well, as well as massage, all contribute to waking up with that wonderful feeling of gratitude every morning. (or whenever you wake up!)
Cheers, and keep up the great discussions
Today I did all my stretches and ate very healthy. For me it is, JUST FOR TODAY. or ONE DAY AT A TIME however it is viewed. I am usually very good about receiving a weekly massage. I did not receive it last week as I was out of town. So another 24 hours will be granted hopefully. I don't look at it as being perfect. None of us as humans even come close to being perfect. I like to look at it as being excellant. I do try my best to walk the walk and talk the talk, just for today.
I work out regularly with weights and use a side dressing of hiking in the summer and snowshoeing/skiing in the winter. My kids (19-30) can't keep up. I've always been into athletics since I was a kid (I'll be 54 in December). When I don't work out, I can tell my massage suffers, usually by the fatigue and/or pain accompanying pain. Same with eating. I do a pretty good job and am working on being even better. I don't eat sweets but I won't eat tofu either. Compromise and moderation is my big thing on food. I do need to get more massages. I admit I'm a little lax. My fault, No excuses.
Whether you realize it or not, Lisa, it is YOU who is the taskmaster for some of us! Thanks for sharing your gift of shining more light on those little (and not so little) things we may be ignoring.
(Thanks to you too, Gerry, your instant recall for the appropriate quotation always makes me giggle!)

I am now going to book myself a massage. :o)
Funny, I put a blog on here titled "Practice What We Teach" not too long after I joined the site!
I practice massage therapy 10 y in Ukraine 1990-2000 an that time only I have regular massage. I have my licence in USA since 2005 and allmost forgot that happy time. Reason- many! I am emploee and have 20 massage a week, after all bills paid I have not so match left for massage. Trading with other lead to great disapointment- most of MT cheat! Good and equal same busy as me. So, I bought hot tub, sauna and teach husband to do massage, now I trade with him.
I do try, but my diet is less than healthy most of the time, I do less exercise than I should however I did just join the gym this week, I try to get a massage or other therapy once every 10 days - 2 weeks but that really does depend on time and money, The thing I'm best at is my stretching and that's only because I couldn't get to work without it.

But thanks Lisa for reminding me how bad I am and how much I still need to keep trying!
Or you always have me in your ear as a friendly reminder :)
Hey Trevor...

If I'm gonna have Bianca in my ear reminding ME...i feel compelled to pass that along. so blame her. :)
Well, I get the exercise in - sometimes have trouble getting all the water and food i need, and my last massage was in november. Ok, enough of true confessions, though. My problem is finding another therapist as good as I am. I get so frustrated with trying to trade with folks who only know their cookbook techniques. I have a couple pretty good therapists, but trying to coordinate schedules with them is tough. So exercise helps me a lot. you should check out www.teambeachbody.com/achesaway - this is my website for te exercise programs I use. Way Awesome - and incredible results. And a great way to help others as well.
