Good Morning all :) I have what i hope is a quick question regarding transferring into the state of Texas from another state with different requirements and how to go about meeting Texas regulations prior to arriving in the state.

According to the state board website, Texas will take my information and my money and then go over my application to ensure my coursework meets Texas' requirements for licensure.

The Texas requirements include a 50 hour internship. Coming from a state that requires no such thing and a school that didn't even offer it, I figure my chances to get licensed in Texas as it stands now are slim to none without having to go back through massage school once we relocate, just to meet this one item.

Am I wrong? Has anyone else transferred into Texas without this requirement? How did you meet it to the satisfaction of the State Board? I am going to have enough trouble getting my hands on a copy of the catalog listing for my program as the school I graduated from has gone to a totally medically model and dissolved the massage program over a year ago, which I was unaware of til it was done and over with.

Hi Judith,
I'd recommend going straight to the Texas Board of Massage Therapy http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/massage---or contact the Texas AMTA Chapter www.amtatexaschapter.org.

Texas accepts the NCB exams and MBLEx exams for licensure, I would imagine if you have either of those, they would accept it for reciprocity.

Good luck!
Hi Judith,

I transferred here from CT. My schooling was 720 hours so i met the requirements of educational hours. I passed the NCBTMB test so i was certified. I paid my money for the license and that was about it. no additional schooling, internship or anything like that. the key is making sure you have the 500 hours they currently now require, and that you pass one of the certified exams.
