A Clarification from the NCB about the Advanced Certification Initiative

A few days ago several of us were discussing the new plans of the NCB for offering advanced certifications.

It didn't seem to be clear of whether or not being currently nationally certified was going to be a requirement for seeking advanced certification, so I asked the question. Here is the response I received from Elizabeth Langston, the Director of Exam Development at the NCB. I am copying it verbatim:

The primary purpose of the Needs Assessment Survey is to gather community feedback on critical issues pertaining to the creation of an Advanced Certification Credential. The information garnered will be used by multiple Task Force groups, including the Eligibility Criteria Subgroup, which will use the data to inform their decisions on matters relating to eligibility.

Based on information gathered from peer groups, past JTA’s and other empirical evidence, we have reason to expect national certification will be one of the eligibility requirements recommended by the profession. In addition, we expect there will be some form of alternative pathway for eligibility called for, analogous to the current Portfolio Review process. Both of these are speculative at this juncture, however. Until the Task Force has officially deliberated and rendered a recommendation on the eligibility question, no outcome can be formal. The Eligibility Criteria Subgroup will be preparing their recommendations using the survey results in the coming weeks.

The Steering Group has also determined that the current FAQ relating to eligibility will be amended to reflect the above. We thank you for your observations.
