A groovy research literacy thread - just a bit of reading each day towards enlightenment....

.....well, it may not be TOTAL enlightenment, but it might be a wee glow and a wee glow is better than total darkness.

The squirrel is in learning and sympathy mode.
I'm in sympathy mode because I can relate to people being confused and overwhelmed (since I've been there!).
There's an information overload and let's face it - sometimes it's just difficult to know where to begin.

And so I've hatched a plan.

Every day over the next few weeks I'm going to add some reading material to this thread.  Just one piece a day. The material will vary and it will come from different sources, but the sequence in which I present them will hopefully make sense.  In some cases you might see some overlap in the information provided, but hey, I'm a big believer in repetition being the best way of learning.

At the end of the few weeks you will know what the p is all about.  Yes, the p.  The p is a big thing, believe it or not.  You will know what internal validity means.  Yes, that thing.  Sounds intriguing, doesn't it?  And best of all, you will have some level of ability to look at research with some level of discernment.  And that's the whole reason for the thread.

OK, so here's the first piece from Ravensara Travillian.

Enjoy!

I've decided this is a waste of time.
So I won't be posting anymore.
If anyone is interested in research in massage, look out for Kim Goral's site in a couple of months - it'll be much clearer in putting elements of research together and it'll be better designed. I've a feeling that the contents of this thread might have been too haphazardly put together and it might have put people off. Putting people off science is the last thing I want to do.

Adios........
Au contraire squirel; YOU did not put people off science. You did add humor, organization, and a fine interpretation to an introduction of research literacy. Bravo!

Robin & Ty -

I agree. Vlad the Squirrel's style and content are good stuff.
Oh Nooo!! There are still some of us out here sucking this stuff in and just trying to keep up, Vlad ~ Lack of response doesn't mean it isn't getting read! This discussion (well, okay...you & Doc-of-the-Lovely-Hair) puts researching lingo in a format that makes sense and is entertaining to boot, and elevates my thinking of this profession -- this is good stuff.

While I look forward to reading Kim's site, I hope you will reconsider at some point. While I tend to look at massage partly as an art form, this has been feeding my geeky side big-time and now I shall have to hunt for great resources myself; you have spoiled me (us) by making this so much easier! So thanks for sharing your hard work...pulling people toward science seems more like it, squirrel!
