I work in a chiropractic office, and I've had three different female clients refer their teenaged boys to me (sports players) At first I was a little bit uncomfortable, but I came up with a solution to the awkwardness of working on pubescent boys, and I thought I'd share. I simply have them start by laying on their back. I work for around ten minutes on the neck, shoulders and arms, then have them turn over and spend the rest of the massage with them laying face down. The only problem with this is if they are specifically needing work in the quads or TFL, otherwise, it's more comfortable for everyone involved.

Not to be overly blunt, but it is simply because teenaged boys are prone to getting unwanted erections. If they are laying prone, this is something that goes unnoticed to the practitioner, thereby avoiding the awkwardness. It has happened a couple of times in my office, and this is my solution.
