A client called a few weeks back wanting a massage. She was scheduled to have a massage the previous day but ended up having the baby that day. She wanted to come in the next day to get her massage. The receptionist (who just finished school for massage) told her that she can't come in cause it is extremely contraindicated. My thought is if the client wants to come in, let them. The only thing that makes it contraindicated is the style of massage. For example, deep tissue would probably not be a good idea. I went looking around and couldn't find anything supporting her claim of it being extremely contraindicated.

So my main question is, how long after the pregnancy would you allow a client to come in? Next day? Next week? Few months? I've heard of massages being given while child birth. So I can't believe the next day would be so bad. Except the woman might be uncomfortable. And a nice relaxing, not deep, massage would be nice I would think. I don't have any children so I couldn't say from experience.

Also, one client wanted a hot stone pregnancy massage. I ended up telling her that that is contraindicated while pregnant. How soon would you say she can come in for a hot stone after? I told her a few months would be fine. Just on the safe side. I also told her that a lot of it is comfort on the therapists part. That way if someone tells her differently she won't come back and say I don't know what I'm doing. Cause as far as I can tell, with pregnancy, everyone's info is different depending on how comfortable they are with it.

I'm no pro when it comes to pregnancy massages. I feel like I'm asking questions I should already know but my school doesn't overly touch up on pregnancy massage. Mostly how to do sidelying and what areas to avoid.

Thanks for any help.
