Animal Therapists Out There?

I am a newly certified large animal massage therapist and I was just wondering how many animal massage therapists are here. Be it large or small animal massage.

The biggest thing I've heard is how hard it is to get the cliental. Just like any business I guess. I had a difficult time in the beginning for massaging people. I've been pretty lucky with the horses. I show at a pretty high level and have been massaging my horses since my Jr. year in high school. The biggest challenge is just getting all my friends to know that I massage horses. But my biggest passion has been massaging horses instead of people so I guess it's no surprise that getting horse clients would be easier for me. I was just waiting for WA to decide on their requirements for animal massage.

I've also done horse events (horse shows mainly) and other places that may have horse people or my target market. My main goal has always been massaging at horse shows, mostly traveling. I've always had a pretty clear picture of what I want. The only draw back is massaging people. Needing a license in each state I want to massage in. I wish there was a national license for those that want to travel between states. lol. I'm only looking for some "local" clients for between show seasons. (Here show season is March to October).

I just thought it would be nice to start a discussion on something other than human massage. How do you enjoy massaging the animals? How have you gotten your name out there? How have you found your clients? What type of animals do you massage? Really just about anything you'd like to share. There aren't many animal therapists (compared to human LMP/LMT) and it would be nice to have some conversations and see what direction others have gone in their animal massage. Animal spa (I know some out there that will spoil their animals with a "spa day"), shows/events, traveling to clients homes, I know there are other possibilities.
