Ear Candling

If anything ear candling alleviates ear infections not causes them. The question I would ask does abmp cover fire insurance?
If we follow the contraindications..like not being infectious ourselves.. how could anyone prove ear infections be a result of candling?

I just want to say something about this as a receiver to this service a few times. First time tried was given to me by a massage therapist that I worked with. We needed a brochure explaining more about the service, so after my first experience with it I wrote up the brochure for clients asking us about it. Years later, I had it done three times within a 6 month period by another two different people that provided the service at the place where they worked. I was having trouble with my right ear more than my left and after the last time received, I had a hard time hearing and needed a doctor to give me a ear flush.

What they discovered in my ear that was causing the deafness after flushing my ear out with water mixed with perioxide, was a tiny piece of the ear candle left in my ear, for how many months or years, I don't know which person who gave me the service left it broken in my ear for how long, don't know, it just kept getting worse, that is when I had to get medical advice and service.

So...if you are going to provide this service, make sure you are fully trained and notice what goes in and what comes out and even what you may have lost if a piece ever breaks off in anyone's ear...you or other people who provide this service, please be aware! Someone could come back to try to use your liablility insurance to cover for this extra cost to cover their doctor visit!!!

WOW! That's aweful! Do you think they knew that happened and decided not to tell you!? I can't imagine. Thanks for the heads up as I have been considering having this done on myself. My boyfriend is always teasing me that I'm deaf! :)

I ' ve only watched someone receiving this.The person had received it regularly to help them get rid of excessive ear wax. The way I understood it was the wax evaporates into the tunnel of the candle..I actually saw the extra wax in the candle when they were finished!. The client reported better hearing. So perhaps your ear wax dropped back into the ear. How I can't imagine? The only time you have the candle on the ear is when the heat is making the wax evaporate. How did your doctor know it was candle wax and not ear wax?

THanks everyone that really helps out. I know ear candling is supposed to help but it made me a little wary because the cosmotology board stopped licensed cosmotologist from doing it because of a few ear infections complaints. Thanks again.

As Jenny stated, ABMP insurance does not cover ear candling. I did some research into the practice, and am extremely skeptical There have be several reported injuries, and what research has been done is not promising. The wax that is shown at the end of the treatment has been tested and found to be candle wax, and no vacuum is actually created. In fact, the amount of suction that would be required the "suck" the ear wax out of an ear would damage the ear drum. I'll be honest, I've not had the service done, and after what I've learned, I'm very wary of trying. I wanted to believe in it, but I just can't.

I watched Myth Busters one time where the used an ear candle on a person, then burned one by itself and when they opened both, they both looked exactly the same. My friend who owns a salon did the same experiment and got the same result. If you do decide to go ahead and offer it as a service, I would have the client sign some sort of waiver.

I offer this as a service on my menu. It isn't a very popular service (average 1 person/ year) and the startup cost can be a little expansive for rate on return. I always tell people the research and conflict behind the modality and let them decide. I also have them sign a release.
I am actually selling my ear candling stuff because I am cleaning up my menu and only going to offer my most popular services.
