It a fabulous book, but I’m biased.
While researching the chapter on Geriatric Massage, I came across (and got permission to use) a great Clinical Fragility Scale published by the Canadian Study of Health and Aging.
It’s a great tool to use when determining if your elderly client is “robust” or “frail.”
It is followed with suggestions on how to modify your massage accordingly.
Thanks Susan! How do you feel about the finished product?

I like the smorgasbord concept of the book.
Students and therapists get a good taste of several methods from field experts.
Many topics such as geriatric massage and cancer and massage are handled more appropriately as a well-written chapter rather than an entire book.
Stillerman did a great creating the table of contents and then inviting people in the industry to contribute to the project.
All chapters include two case studies and a personal vignette called “In My Experience.” I get emails all the time how much people were moved when reading about my experience of watsuing my Grandmother.
Watsuing, is that a word??? And I’m an author, for Pete’s sake.

I am delighted and honored that you mentioned my book Modalities for Massage and Bodywork. This book is a compilation of the top 21 subjects taught in continuing education workshops. Each chapter is written by the preeminent expert in their respective field. It was an incredible educational experience to edit this book and work with these leaders. Readers will learn at the 'feet of the Masters'. The accompanying DVD provides visual explanations of 7 of the modalities, so readers have a greater sense of the techniques. This book should be in every massage school's book store and in every bodyworker's library. Elaine Stillerman, LMT
A great book. It provides a lot of information at a usable level of detail for each topic. Of course, I'm in the same boat as Susan in being biased. ;)
