I would like to run this by everyone to get your take on it. I am considering applying for a position with a chiropractor's office and one of the requirements is the clinic will be named as an additional insurer. Is this the norm or should I just keep looking? If anyone has had this as a requirement, could you explain to me how it works? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks for your input.

It is very normal. It sounds like what they're talking about is an Additional Insured Endorsement or AIE, and all this means is that you list your landlord or employer as an AIE with your insurer by providing their name, address and other basic contact info. This gives the landlord or employer a certain amount of protection and it doesn't affect your own policy in any way. I don't know about other providers, but if you have your insurance through ABMP, there isn't any additional cost to add an AIE.

To add to what Carrie said: Yes, this is VERY standard.  I lease an office in a professional building and am required to list my landlord (the building owner) as a AIE.  The purpose of this is to extend your policy limits to cover any liability the AIE may incur in the event that you injure a client or if your client is injured on premises. 

Some insurance companies charge a small, one time fee for adding the AIE to your policy but as Carrie said, ABMP provides this at no charge to their members.

This is a normal request.  Adding an Additional Insured (AI) to your policy doesn't provide them with any coverage.  All it will do is protect them against any claim that might be brought against you.  So if anyone ever filed a claim against you, that person would not be able to include the chiropractor's office in the suit.  Most employers and landlords make this request.
