someone enlighten me,
why is our profession so fascinated by having another peace of paper to hang on the wall?
I don't see a benefit of AC to massage therapists From ROI ( return on investment position)
In 2003 while teaching massage at local vocational school, principal was pushing for "all students to become NCBMT certified" as I don't ask of my students anything that I don't do I did apply and got it myself.
My income didn't change after I proudly displayed everywhere my NCBMT certificate, number of referrals didn't change, and insurance still kept me on hold for 4 hours and paid what they felt if they paid at all 6-8 months later....
Since 2004 in NJ we have state certification and still
when I wanted to go and work in Franklin Township I had to go to local police station (?!?!) to get fingerprinted and get the Franklin township license....despite the fact that we have a state certification which we where told was to eliminate all byzantine rules of local fiefdoms.
On other hand if we look to at physical therapy and their " 2010 Vision " http://www.apta.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Vision_20201&Templa...
with 3 years of of post grad school they are giving "Doctor of PT" titles
and automatically, in most states I know, that gives them a go at the prescription pad
and eliminates " gatekeepers" we are so eagerly trying to please..
.nobody is going to give anything for free...why are we creating barriers to entry into profession and looking for "respectability" rather than looking to how can we actually make it possible for new MT to make a living as soon as they graduate as opposed to making it more difficult and expensive to stay in business
So don't take my word, according to some studies available on goverments Department of Labor web site average MT lifespan is about 6.3 years with median income of $16.94/h ? http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes319011.htm
How is Advanced Certification going to change that for better?
