I'm currently working at a ME in NC and we had an issue regarding a minor child and a parent/guardian in the room.

Here's the skinny;

   We had a couples session scheduled for a Father & Son, now in NC supposedly from what other therapists have told me here was that the therapist for the minor child has to be of the same sex, OK well that I can wrap my head around, well on this day for the couples session the therapist working on the Father was a female, apparently from what she stated she could not be in the same room as the minor child, even though she was working on the Father and the parent was in the room?

I went to NC Massage Board site and was unable to find any laws regarding minor, let alone something so specific as the above question. So I figured I'd turn to you guys to see if anyone else had any experience w/ this????

Thanks for the help!

Many people have problems interpreting law. We are not trained in legal thought. Look through the posts in the forums and you will read many posts even by massage instructors who miss read or miss state the laws. It would be interesting if anyone posts a violation problem regarding this issue.

I am not in North Carolina but I use the ABMP client intake form that has a parental consent at the bottom for minors. I always allow the parent to be in the room if they or the child asks for it.
I got a response from the board today, very quick surprised. In NC there are no laws regulating massage of minor children w/ exception that if under 18 a consent "Should" be signed by parent/guardian, but board does not explicitly regulate this issue.
