Why do therapists, especially ones fresh out of school, list modalities that take more schooling such as Shiatsu.Just because you've touched on a modalitie in school a few times doen't make you certified or capable for that matter!

Greetings!
All depends on the concept of each institution and its educational foundation. In my case my whole course is 1,140 hours, a full course of a year. This course includes several modalities of massage. Swedish, Quiromasaje, Shiatsu, Sports Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Massage for Aging, Massage for children, spa techniques, Kinesiology, among others.

Each of the arrangements were full-time between theory and practice. You end up with great knowledge in each of the modalities. However, the difference lies in the manner as mentioned. I, in my personal case, I have knowledge of Shiatsu, I am not a Shiatsu Master, that's where this difference. These skills, if mastered, is placed on skills and abilities and knowledge in the area of Resumes, but not as a study independent. The aim of this massage in schools is because they know different types of massage high demand for marketing that may interest some and then Specialize in it.

I am not specialized in any specific, right now, but if interested so later as God permits me, to specialize in Shiatsu (Like three years of study), Lomi Lomi (like one to three years), Reiki(three levels) and Kinesiology (can be in a University or three levels course), and perhaps Chiromassage, but this is gradually according to the time . But not being Specialized in any of them, does not mean you do not have expertise in this field and can not exercise because I feel very well prepared in the massage. But like I said, everything depends on how each institution provides education massage.

Take care and have wellness weekend!
Personally, I believe that someone can be capable, even if they aren't certified. Just don't say you're certified if you're not. If you feel confident that you are knowledgeable and capable, then you shouldn't limit yourself and hold yourself back.

Say you have years of experience in a certain modality, but are not certified in it. Whereas your friend took a short course and now has their certification paper, but only has a few months experience. Would you go with the more confident therapist with more experience or the therapist with a certification and hardly any experience?

I suppose it also has something to do with the technicalness of the modality as well. This is an interesting discussion. :)
Video discussion on this. :)
