I am new to the whole Chair Massage world, but I'm really excited to get going! I have a few ideas of places to go and try to work, but I thought we could use this as a sort of brainstorming thread, where we can share ideas for places to give chair massage.

Also, does anybody know the legality factor surrounding certain places? Like, can you go set up, and start making money at the park? How about a random spot downtown? I guess I'm just wondering, where can you just walk in and start working, and where do you need to talk with people to get permission? Any ideas who to contact regarding festivals, sporting events, or other special events?

I have thought of:

---Car washes
---Parks (possibly, any stories?)
---Elderly homes
---Restaurants (if they have a long wait all the time)

Any other ideas? Let's fill this page with places!

First check out your local licensing laws for chair massage. the laws vary greatly from place to place. You will most likely at least need a business license for the location you want to use.

Parks are usually off-limits since business is not allowed in them except for special events.

You didn't list businesses or manufacturing companies. I have a chair massage business which contracts with companies to work on their employees.

Chair Massage opens up all kinds of possibilities but do check the local laws.
Check into doing customer appreciation days for branded companies and work it from there. I'm doing one at a local business in conjunction with their day of fundraising for our local children's hospital summer camp. The therapist who worked this event last year gained 4 new repeat table clients and two long term contracts for on-site work at other local businesses.
I've said it before and I will say it again-Farmers markets! People who shop at farmers markets are in to health and healthy life styles!
Best wishes with your new chair massage business !
Emma
Even with Farmer's Market, you either have to purchase booth space or get a vendor's license from the city. Nothing is free anymore.
Oh, Iam sorry. I thought Andrea was looking for ideas to look in to,not discouragement. My bad!

These are all great ideas; I guess I just feel a little nervous about how to get in the door at all these "companies". What am I supposed to do, just walk in, and start talking to the front desk clerk.

Any advice on how to get your foot in the door at these places?
You could do that. Then whoever greets you can steer you in the right direction. Also you could write letters,or check at your town hall to get names and numbers of the people in charge.Jump in, you will do fine,Deep breath, one foot in front of the other! Got my fingers crossed for you!!

The answer I gave her, Emma, was not for discouragement. These are things that must be considered even if an event/business is a great idea.

Andrea send me a message with your questions and I will be more than happy to answer them I've been in the chair massage biz for 10 years. It would be easier to answer that way.
In the State of Florida One has to have a business license for tax purposes and it must be posted wherever you are doing massage. I have done chair massage at the electric company and had contact with the Human Resourse Manager. Also chair massage for Council On Aging at their Employee days and Volunteer Days. Contact with the Volunteer Coordinator. Chair massage also at a womens gym and out in front of a business at strip mall. I have receive chair massages inside the mall here for a dollar a minute. Hope that helps.
Just a quick one:
One good niche that I have found are Dentist's offices.
Dentist offices have people working there that can benefit from chair massage and their work means that their shoulders are usually in need of a lot of work. Know the way there is a day for everyone? Well, every year there is a "Dentists day", so you can do some marketing to dentists in your local area. If you get booked up on the day, you can subcontract out the work to other therapists. The nice thing about dentists is that they have money to spend on their staff. If you get in at one office, they will probably have you back periodically.

I don't market my chair massage business a lot (I prefer table work), but when people do find me, it's because they found me through the web, so my advice is make sure you have good SEO on your website to make sure you get good positioning on the search results when people plug in the name of your city and the phrase "chair massage". My positioning isn't great (I'm on the second page in local listings), but I still get people finding me from it anyway.
Emma can you believe that where I live (Fredericksburg, TX) they wouldn't let me do chair massage at the farmer's market :(, they said it was only to sell produce.
