This weekend I will be setting up to do some post marathon massage. I have never worked on clients immediately following a race, so i'm a little nervous on how to approach it. What I've read online seems to be more stretching than anything for post marathon. Any Veterans out there who have worked on runners right after a race that can give me an idea of a basic 10min protocol? Any and all tips will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Thanks Polly! That reinforces everything that I have been finding & what I was planning on doing. Having never worked on people so close to such a grueling event, I've been anxious to say the least haha but this at least gives me more confidence in my intuition. Thanks again

Please educate yourself about the fact that water does not flush toxins from the body. This occurs naturally. Toxins don't settle in muscles.

Polly,

Thanks for asking, it went great! We had a whole recovery room set up for the runners with foot soak, stretches & yoga sequences, & massage, of course ;) . Needless to say, they were very appreciative. Pretty much any attention given to their muscles was good for them. I just treated it like a normal session only without all the deep digging & added a little more stretching. The place I was set up at is already talking about doing it again next year and adding another therapist. Great experience & very rewarding.
