I recently started studying massage therapy and I absolutely love it.  Just the other day I came into contact with someone who has 3rd degree burn scars all over her left leg. She almost lost the leg but Dr's were able to save it but now she has incredible pulling and tightness in her knee. I'm aware that muscle can be relaxed when massaged but I wondering if the actually scar tissue and can be softened so she has more mobility.

There are a couple of modalities well suited for scar tissue release - John Barnes' Myofascial Release can work wonders, as can the Chickly Institute's Lymph Drainage Therapy.  This forum is a challenging place to describe techniques but if you are interested I can do my best with the MFR!  LDT is much harder to explain in this format.
