Mark,
I send out thank-you cards to my clients as well as birthday cards. It gives a small chance they will forget me, it does not always work, but it does not hurt.
Thanks Travis, Great idea, Will do.

I usually call my clients the following day and see how they feel. At that point I would ask them if they would like to re-book. It shows that you care about their well-being and them feel comfortable about boking another appointment, instead of being pressured to book one. I also send thank you cards a week after their appointment.
Ask. I was really bad at this at first. Then I learned that the worst they can say is "no". When they are "checking out" I always ask how frequently they would like to get massage. They're feeling really good at this point, so of course they want more and soon. Then I explain that if they can get massage just one time a month the benefits climb sky high. So, I ask if the date (4 weeks from today) will work for them. And even if "life happens" and they have to reschedule, at least they were booking with good healthy intentions. It leaves them with a feeling of doing something good for themselves and not being "trapped" in an appointment that they may not be able to keep. Success rate:HIGH.
Mark, of these very good suggestions, you'll find what works well for you. I do all of those things mentioned. Thank- you cards to all new clients who've come in, "I've added a new service" post cards to all in my data base, phone calls to former clients that I haven't seen lately, etc.

But the one thing that works best for me is ALWAYS asking before a client leaves, "would you like me to call you to schedule your next appointment, or would you like to go ahead and schedule now?" My stack of appointment reminder cards, prominently at hand, has been noticed by clients and if their I-pod isn't already on, I'm ready to hand them a card!
Hope this helps~
Get them booked before they leave Mark. As for asking ? that gives them the choice to say no. You might want to say "let's get you scheduled for your next appointment so we can continue assisting you with your improvement etc. This is what I have available." Most often they will book when it is said that way. I used to have clients booked up for months. They saw it the same as a chiro appt or dr appt. If they don't book right away, then all the suggestions below are great. Definitely follow up the next day, they love that . Even docs can't do that. It makes them know you care. Good Luck
I also do all things mentioned (thank you cards, birthday cards) I also use a email marketing service through vista print. It allows you to group your clients into categories and send emails tailored to them. It's cheap and allows you to track who is opening them emails. I usually get calls and emails a day after sending them. I add some useful info to the email (self massage techniques, stress relief to name a few) I sound like a commercial but they have a great site with inexpensive ways to keep in touch with clients. Good luck.
I always have a package deal for clients..so usually i have them for a series of 3. Its easy for them to rebook since they are already prepaid sessions..and on top of that, i've given the packages a 2 month expiration date. I also have a "on-call list" of clients I call if I have a cancellation or if i'm slow during the week. That seems to be working well, as i'm able to fill in empty slots all the time..i just send out a group text on my phone and sit back and wait for the responses.
What happens where I work is, anyone who re-books at the time of their massage session, their name goes into a fish bowl for a drawing for a free massage. This is on going and happens each month. Lots of folks want that free massage each month.
