Renting space from an established office vs on my own

I know sounds confusing. I was just wondering and my research is not giving me any answers to this situation.

I rent a room in a chiroprcatic office, as do 3 other people, they have their own rooms. We all share everything in the office including waiting area. Do i need to go thru the occupancy process from the borough to work out of this room? I could see if I was renting my own space in a building or strip mall. Chiropractor owns the space, works his business out of it and 3 do so as well. 

Just wondering your thoughts.
