I'm sorry it took me so long to see this, Nicole. I have done a lot of outcalls and there are definite positives and negatives.
Positives: My clients love it! They really enjoy having the massages in their own space. They are willing to pay more for me to come to them. It is great for out-of-town clients (I only have one left but I used to have 6 different homes I went to). It's a fabulous way to build your practice. I've built my practice now to where I only have time for the one outcall, but it was wonderful getting started to have those clients.
Negatives: You have to pack up and go to them. That takes time and energy. And safety is HUGE. Be willing to listen to the voice that says a situation is a problem! It's also recommended for outcall therapists that they be willing to abandon their gear in favor of getting out of a bad situation. Make sure someone knows where you are and how long you are going to be there.
Things to think about: You need a lightweight, portable table (mine is an Astra-Lite and it's wonderful). You need some way to transport all your gear (I have a huge bag with rollers from LL Bean). You need a way to play music (I have a Bose SoundDock and an iPod Touch but it doesn't have to be that big of an investment; it just needs to be able to play music well enough that it sounds good). Oh, and you need to have a sense of humor about pets! They always want to be involved with what is happening, and many of them love me so I get lots of attention when I'm at a client's house!
I have never done any advertising; all of my clients have been word of mouth referrals or people I've worked on with chair massage.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions; I'll help as much as I can.
Hi Therese,
Thank you so much for responding! I'm just starting out and trying to get as much information as I can. Everything you said was extremely helpful, thank you!! I will send you a message offline :)
