Why doctors/chiropractors pay so bad to massage therapists?

Here in south florida, licensed massage therapists get paid in a medical office between $12 and $15 the hour. For me this is an exploitation and discrimination. Do you think its fair that a massage therapist get paid the same as the receptionist in a medical office?

Doctors pay bad to massage therapists, and insurance companies try to delay direct payments to massage therapists (they just do it if its done through a doctor). If we are part of the department of health, why the rest of the medical field discriminate us like this?

Why do they do it? Because massage therapists continue to take them! I think if you take the time and create a plan and show the employer how much more you could make them by getting your clients to refer others and also get people coming back more that you can negotiate more.

Just say no to low paying jobs!

You are right! well.. that's why I unfortunately have never worked in a medical office. I deny to be undervalued that way. But I don't think they really care about that. They just want to make profits so they don't care about getting clients through good massage therapists. They work through insurance companies and they know they have the power and that always will get constant flow of patients. It's really sad when you look for jobs with a doctor and the highest pay they offer is $15/hr. For me, its a kind of conspiracy and monopoly. Really frustrating and sad that the national massage board and the department of health don't do anything for us. Very frustrating.

Thanks Julie for replying my post!

Happy new year!

Angela.
