massage and bodywork professionals
a community of practitioners
I am finally at the point in my career that I want to press on with opening a mini wellness center that has been my vision for the last five years. I thought I would bring on my two friends left in the field as both are unhappy in their current situation. When discussing what hours they wanted to work so I make sure the office is fully staffed both of them informed me they want mid day times. How can you have clientele if your only willing to work from 10 until 2?
Currently I make appointments for myself Monday-Friday from 9am until 7pm and from 9-1 on Saturdays. Granted I am not there the whole time but there is at least two days a week I am there from 8:30 am until 8:30pm. Has anyone come across this? 80% of my business is after 4pm. My chiropractor I rent space from her last client is 5pm it ercks me to no end in an industry that is about people how the bulk of practitioners don't cater to people's work life. I don't know what to do.

You can try to find other people that want the later hours. I am available for appointments 9:30 to 9:30 daily except Monday & Wednesday. I am in the place 11am to 6pm unless there is an appointment outside of those hours Saturday I try to limit to 11:00 to 2:30 so I have some free time. Wednesday I do corporate massage. The two people working at my place I have one coming in Tuesday, Thursday & Friday and the other comes Sunday 11-5. I usually have a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 8 clients each day.
What is your arrangement? Are they renting or independent contractors? Unless they are employees you can't insist on a schedule.
I believe there is a lot of business opportunity for people willing to change there hours of operation. Pretty much everyone has 9 to 5 hours, if you want your business to stand out from the crowd, what about 2pm to 10pm. After all you did say the bulk of your business is after 4pm anyway. My wife wants to start a therapy practice (mental health) and she's considering starting out evenings and Saturdays till she builds the business up so she could quite her day job and go full time. In her field, it's pretty much unheard of to have hours outside a Monday to Thursday and a half day Friday.
