Hello

I love giving chair massages almost as much as table as long as the outcome is the same. During our local RELAY FOR LIFE event, our town usually has a great turnout. I meet a lot of nice people and I meet a lot of cancer survivors and they all love chair massage. I know that the reason for the event is to help raise awareness for different cancers, here it is a mix of different cancers A LOT. I hope that everyone has an opportunity to work with these people or a similar organization. Any thoughts ?

I think this is a GREAT way to build your business. Working with Cancer survivors is extremely rewarding work as well--(I'm long time survivor and with I work with cancer folks at all stages, current treatment, survivors, those at end of life, etc.). One thing to keep in mind are the contraindications of working with survivors who may have been treated with radiation, and/or have had lymph nodes removed. Massage is such a wonderful healing modality, and there's a lot to keep in mind in terms of their safety. Sometimes chair massage can be deeper pressure which isn't always a good thing for this community. I too volunteer my time at the Relay for Life, Komen walks, and this year I'll be riding in the Pan Mass challenge, a bike ride/race across the state of Massachusetts that raises money for cancer research. Massage has been a staple at this event since it's beginning. So RIGHT ON Travis! Keep up the good work!

On September 15, 2009, I was involved in my first Massage For A Cure Event here in Pensacola, FL. It is actually a nationwide event with this going on at 600 different locations all over the USA. The goal was to raise $500,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. I do not know what was raised as yet. When I know I will let you all know. Here in Pensacola though, we did 65 massages from 9 AM - 10PM. It involved 16 LMT's throughout the day. I am so glad I was able to be a part of this event. It was really fun. I will do it again next year. Also gained 15 new clients because of this event.

Hello Darcy,
Did you ever find out what the outcome of funds that were generated in the Massage for a cure, I will be looking for this event in the future so that I may participate. Sounds like a wonderful idea, its amazing to me how many people are touched and effected at these kind of events, it is like a big snowball, as it just continues to grow one client at a time.

I do not know the final amount of the funds raised yet,Travis. When I do I will let you know. It was an awesome event to participate in.

This is great! How did you approach them about doing chair massage and do you do it all free? I love it! Just curious. I would love to get into this type of charity work.

With Massage For A Cure we did 1 hour table massages through the American Cancer Society. They were not chair massages. The charge was $35 for the hour and all the money went to the American Cancer Society. It was a great event to participate in and such fun.

I found out this week, that Massage For a Cure did reach their goal Nation wide of raising $500,000.00 for the American Cancer Society.
