I find that offering Summer Specials, either in the way of pricing or value-added items to services has worked so far.

Coco Mojito...Sounds Delish. I like the idea of a longer service.
I agree, I mailed a lot of gift certificates to my clients that will be valid all summer for a certain percentage off any massage session. I also included one or two extra certificates to give to their family or friends that may be interested. I have had a good outcome so far with this approach. I just got my business going 6 months ago so I'm still on the slow side right now. Good luck to you all..
I work for a wellness center in an active adult golf community. Needless to say, we have a built-in clientele. I have been here for 1 1/2 years and the more I build my client base, the busier I am obviously. The great thing is that we have so many new people moving here that we are always getting new clients. It is great. The center offers reduced packages for both massage and facials, several times throughout the year. That really keeps the people loyal! Best deal around and the best therapists! This summer has only slowed down a small bit.
The company I work for is offering $49 introductory massages. Then after a few weeks break are calling and inviting folks back for a second massage at the $49 rate. The second massage is by invitation only. They are also targeting certain groups in the city and county like Police Officers, Firemen, Nurses, School teachers now that school is upon us. They are also offering a 90 minute massage for $74. So far so good. We are staying pretty busy.
We Were just involved with Massage For A Cure which took place on Tuesday 9-15-09. We did 75 massage that day. This took place at over 600 locations through out the USA. Of course the goal was to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Gained 15 new clients that day from being involved in this one event in Pensacola, FL.

I usually charge 50. per hour up to 4 hour sessions. Over this summer I have offered 90 min for 65. I have had as much business as I can do. Many of my customers are not in a high income jobs and just a small effort on my part to give some financial break has gone a long way in returned gratitude. It has also switched my 1 hour massage customers to 90 minute customers. We all know what a difference that 30 minutes makes. I have been so happy with the results I am considering
keeping the special going until the world gets back on its feet... my small stimulus plan. Change the world with peace,,, one massage at a time.
a very great idea indeed. i am (finally) going out on my own, took a leap of faith... i am still waiting on the board to do final inspection on my location, and in the mean time have decided to offer out-call at my in-call rate. on top of that, i am also implementing an "early bird special" for WAY EARLY appointments, from 5 am to 7am... in call only... but half off! a little crazy, but i do believe it will work!

I gave the first one free for about the first two or three years. That worked really well. people will tell you not to sell youself short but when you arent doing anything... Sometimes, all they need is too know what there getting. There are a lot of people out there who have never had a massage. Those people arent gonna spend 90. or 70 or 50 dollars for something they don't know. And get naked in front of a stranger, ya,right. You offer one for free and those people will be loyal and frequent customers. Just make sure that free one is as good as the ones you get paid for.....
Amen!
